ALEX MORONO VS TIM MEANS LOWDOWN

Alex Morono (22-8(1)) makes his 18 walk to the octagon after his impressive UFC record and jaw took a dent at UFC 282 in December last year. He was riding his longest UFC streak after knocking out Donald Cerrone (2021) and earning unanimous decisions over David Zawada (2021), Mickey Gall (2021) and Matthew Semelsberger (2022) but then ran into Santiago Ponzinibbio’s right hand to go 11-5(1).

Tim Means (32-14-1(1)) makes the walk for his 27 UFC fight. Back in 2021, he completed a rare win streak earning classy unanimous decisions over Laureano Staropoli (2020), Mike Perry (2020) and Nicolas Dalby (2021). However, 2022 was a dry year getting submitted by Kevin Holland and falling short in a split decision to Max Griffin and now he is hoping 2023 will be more successful.

ALEX MORONO VS TIM MEANS PREDICTION

Moron’s recent knockout loss to Ponzinibbio was a setback however, he did take the fight on short notice and won the first two rounds. Means’ form is worse but even at this stage of his career, he is still a tough fight for most fighters in the welterweight division.

He is a boxer by trade, but mixes in his grappling well. Morono does not have the best takedown defence but he is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Although we have barely seen those skills in the UFC and instead he relies on his striking.

So, we expect this to play out on the feet where Means will boast a three-inch reach and height advantage. He uses that range very well so expect to see Morono’s leg kick and 1-2 combination to close the distance.

Means can get this done with his volume and mixing in the odd takedown. Morono can steal the rounds by landing more damage and we are backing him to devise a strategy to come out on top, but Means is worth a punt as the underdog.

Prediction: Morono via Decision -
