Betfair Chase tips and runner-by-runner guide to Haydock 3.00

A Plus Tard is defending the Betfair Chase at 15:00 on Saturday. Haydock’s Grade 1 was the starting point for last season's Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning campaign.

Henry De Bromhead's horse won the race at Haydock 12 months ago by 22 lengths. Rachael Blackmore rode him to success in Cheltenham Gold Cup last season.

Daryl Jacob is a three-time winner of this event and runner-up in Grand National Trial in February.

Brendan Powell is a high-class chaser who landed Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter and Denman Chase at Newbury last season. He finished second to Bravemansgame in Charlie Hall Chase in Wetherby.

Bryony Frost won the Badger Beer Handicap at Wincanton a fortnight ago.

Dan Skelton's chaser posted an excellent third to A Plus Tard in Cheltenham Gold Cup last season. Harry Skeltons is back after a breathing operation.

A PLUS TARD won the Gold Cup last year. Protektorat is the best equipped to chase home Henry de Bromhead's top-notcher. Eldorado Allen and Bristol de Mai and Frodon are the other contenders.
