Bruins vs Ducks Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

The Boston Bruins and Anaheim Ducks will both be on the second half of a back-to-back, which is always a test regardless of how early it is in the season. Our NHL betting picks believe this will work to the advantage of defense and goaltending.

The Boston Bruins continue their western road trip with a matchup against the Anaheim Ducks. Both teams are on the second half of a back-to-back set for this Sunday night clash, with Boston installed as a heavy road favorite in the NHL odds.

The Bruins are undefeated through four games after a 4-2 win over the Kings on Saturday night. On the other hand, the Ducks are 1-3-0 to start the season despite some hard-fought games.

Can the Bruins keep up their undefeated start? Read on for our Boston Bruins vs. Anaheim Ducks NHL picks and predictions for October 22.

Bruins vs Ducks predictions

The Bruins have played their brand of hockey to perfection so far this season. Last night was the first time they scored more than three goals in a game this season. They’ve allowed a total of six goals through four games.

Boston has been able to make do without the likes of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci to solidify the center position. The Bruins have been stingy on defense thanks to a strong blue line anchored by Charlie McAvoy. Of course, Boston has one of the best goalie tandems in the league, and reigning Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark is slated to start tonight.

The Ducks had an offensive outburst in a 6-3 victory over the Hurricanes for their lone win. Outside of that, the Ducks have scored just four goals in their three other games.

Perhaps most importantly, the Bruins have gone Under the total in each of their four games thus far. The Bruins have been able to slow down the opposition, and the Ducks shouldn't be too much of a challenge for them.

David Pastrnak leads a top-heavy Bruins offense against a young Ducks team that is looking to find its footing. Boston is always comfortable playing a low-scoring game, and that should be no different in Anaheim tonight.

My best bet: Under 6.5 (-125 via BetRivers)

Bruins vs Ducks same-game parlay

Under 5.5

Ducks +1.5

First Period Under 1.5

This should be a low-scoring game and I’m willing to slide down to Under 5.5 in this parlay.

The Under 6.5 is undoubtedly a safer bet, but the key number is 5.5 when we add in the Ducks +1.5 leg. That allows us to cash if the Ducks win with fewer than six goals scored or any one-goal losses such as the 3-2 game that the Bruins seem to so typically play.

If you want to stick with the Under 6.5 instead of Under 5.5 as the first leg, I would recommend playing the safer Ducks +2.5 as well. That covers a Ducks win with fewer than seven goals as well as a low-scoring Bruins win of 2-1, 3-2, 3-1, and 4-2 in case of a pesky empty-net tally.

Both the Bruins and Ducks have gotten off to slow starts so far this season. The Ducks have scored four goals and allowed two in their four first periods thus far. Meanwhile, the Bruins have also allowed just two first-period goals through four games while scoring five. Both of these teams went Under 1.5 goals in the first period on Saturday as well.

Bruins vs Ducks moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Bruins opened up as huge road favorites at around -250 at most books with the Ducks as home underdogs around +200. You can find the Bruins -245 at DraftKings and Ducks +205 at Caesars as of early Sunday morning.

The total for this game varies a bit depending on which sportsbook you look at. It opened up at 6.5 at FanDuel, among others, with an even six set at a few other books, including DraftKings.

The best look for the Over is Over 6 at -110 on BetMGM, while Under 6.5 is available on BetRivers at a favorable -125.

There may be a bit of line movement throughout the day on Sunday but it shouldn’t impact too much. The Ducks lost their road matchup in Arizona on Saturday afternoon while the Bruins had to play late into the night for a 4-1 win in Los Angeles.

The Under 6.5 (-125) is my best bet, but I would also recommend a flier on the Ducks at +200 or better. Anaheim upset Carolina last Sunday in a similar situation as +250 underdogs.
