The Chicago Cubs offered Jose Abreu a two-year deal in the $40 million range. The Houston Astros offered him a three- year contract. The winter meetings are next week. Anthony Rizzo, JoseAbreus and Mike Clevinger are the only big names off the board. There are plenty of other options for the Cubs to swoop in and find. It's important to understand when it's beneficial to spend money now and in long run. For the fans, the number of years is not important. However, it is important from a standpoint of a General Manager or President of Baseball Operations. If the front office didn't make an offer to Abeus, I would question what it was they were doing here.
