Coronavirus restrictions bar London racegoers from Kempton on Boxing Day
The UK government has elevated London into Tier 3 of its coronavirus restrictions. The new restrictions come into force from 12.01 am on Wednesday. Kempton's King George VI Chase is in Surrey, so it can admit people living in Tier 1 or 2 regions. Tickets for the event sold out in 17 minutes. Chelmsford, which is due to host its final fixture of 2020 on Thursday, will be affected. It will have a behind-closed-doors meeting. There was a rise in Covid-19 cases in London. No tracks in England are in the Tier 2 sector.
