Greatrex's first big winner since 2020

After some difficult years for trainer Warren Greatrex, Bill Baxter is his first big winner since Emitom back in 2020.

Bill Baxter wins!

And Bill Baxter has emerged victorious, finishing ahead of Fantastic Lady and Killer Kane.

It was an attritional race, but an impressive win for jockey Sam Twiston-Davies.

3:30 Marsh Chase result

1: Pic D'orhy

2: Fakir D'oudairies

3: Minella Drama

"It means a lot"

"He jumped beautifully," Cobden tells ITV. "Brian Hughes was ever so good to me on the way round because his horse (Minella Drama) jumped slightly left. So there were a couple of occasions he could have kept me a lot tighter than he did but he was very fair."

On his jubilant reaction: "This horse, half the time I've ridden him I've ended up on the floor. Three bad falls I've had on him, so it means a lot."

PIC D'ORHY WINS!

Once again, the early leader tails off.

Pic D'orhy wins as jockey Harry Cobden salutes the stands. Fakir D'oudairies second and a fading Minella Drama third.

Winning trainer Paul Nicholls enjoyed that.

Here comes Pic D'orhy!

Making a charge down the inside.....

Four fences to go

Still Minella Drama from Pic D'Orhy.

Slow start to the 3:30

No one in a hurry here yet. Minella Drama still setting what I can describe as an 'even' pace.

AND WE'RE OFF!

Underway, as Minella Drama moves to the front.

Muddy joy for Fennors Cross

Fennors Cross and Ben Harvey show the extent of the conditions during the William Hill Handicap Hurdle

3:30 Marsh Chase

Only 10 minutes until the next one at Aintree - and here's the horses and jockeys folks:

Fakir D’ougdairies, Mark Walsh

French Dynamite, Darragh O’Keefe

Fugitif, Sean Bowen

Hitman, Lorcan Williams

Millers Bank, Kielan Woods

Minella Drama, Brian Hughes

Pic D’Orhy, Harry Cobden

Pic D'Orphy for the 3:30?

That's who are tipster has gone for amid improved performances this season.

On the back of a second breathing operation, the eight-year-old resumed winning ways at Newton Abbot in October before a two-length margin in the Grade 2 Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon three weeks before Christmas, and shrugged off a 6lb penalty with a 16-length thrashing of Clondaw Castle in the same-level Silviniaco Conti Chase at Kempton.

McManus pays tribute

Owner of Inthepocket, JP McManus, has just hailed Blackmore as "very special for horse racing."

An assessment few would argue with.

1: Inthepocket

2: Strong Leader

3: Luccia

Blackmore builds towards the big one with a win

One of the greats. And she's not done yet this week.....

INTHE POCKET WINS!

Inthepocket and Rachael Blackmore take it home for trainer Henry De Bromead.

"I didn't make it easy on myself it was all a bit messy there at the finish," Blackmore tells ITV. "But he's a really nice horse and will be good in the future. His jumping improved as we went along."

Strong leader by the way, ridden by Sean Bowen, absolutely stormed from the back to take second. Left the charge too late....just.

Thrilling finish!

Inthepocket takes a late lead!

Matata ahead with five to go

It's been a theme today of horses making an early charge and trying to build a lead.

None of them have won yet, by the way. And the chasing pack - led by Altobelli - are closing on Matata.

And we're off!

Matata, with Daryl Jacob aboard, making the early running as all horses jump the first safely.

Joint favourites for the Top Novices' Hurdle.

Fancy a (very) late flutter? Found A Fifty and Inthepocket joint favourites with many bookmakers at 7/2.

Top Novices' Hurdle up next

Altobelli is our tip for this one, despite tackling Grade 1 opposition for the first time.

Harry Fry’s son of Maxios, whose namesake Alessandro Altobelli netted in Italy’s 3-1 World Cup Final victory over West Germany in 1982, made the perfect start to his career with a romp in an Exeter bumper in February of last year.

Off the course for 300 days – Altobelli had wind surgery in the interim – the five-year-old marked his obstacles debut with a length-and-a-quarter score in a maiden hurdle at Ffos Las three days before Christmas.
