Horse Racing Tips Monday 2nd January 2024 best bets and most tipped horses

There is no racing in Ireland today, Tuesday 2nd January 2024, so all the action comes from the UK and three tracks host a meeting. Ayr and Fakenham provide some decent jumps action in the afternoon before Wolverhampton's AW fixture in the evening. Here we pick out some of the most popular naps from our racing naps table, as well as looking at some of the big racing stories hitting the headlines as the new year gets rumbling...

The Naps table in terms of quantity is all about one horse today; AUBIS WALK at Ayr for Nicky Richards and Sean Quinlan. The 14:15 looks a competitive little contest, with just five runners but the whole quintet being priced at under 10/1 at the time of writing. After a 261 day break. Aubis Walk returned with a bang when recording a smooth success on the first of December last year over this course and distance. He won by just under 2 lengths but was value for much more than that as he only picked up the leaders late after a stalking Quinlan ride. This screamed of a horse with more in his locker and despite a rise in the weights for this race, a repeat performance or an improvement would make him the one to beat.

The Brigadier is the most profitable of the SEVEN Naps table entrants to select this Richards runner as the best bet of Tuesday, sitting in tenth currently in the leaderboard. Melissa Jones of the Express is another name in racing siding with this 11/8 chance, while outside of Aubis Walk a trio of horses have been backed by three tipsters each. They are Marown in the 13:45 at Ayr, El Jefe in the 15:00 Fakenham and Not Too Real Bad in the 20:00 Wolverhampton.

Horseracing.net says: "It is clear to see why so many of the experts in our racing Naps table fancy Auris Walk, as the manner of his win last time out over the same C&D screamed that this was a horse who could continue the winning thread. Of the rivals, perhaps Grain D'Ourdairies for Brian Hughes will prove the chief threat, however everything looks in the most popular Nap of the day's favour."

The Punt at the Racing Post still heads the Naps table, with a profit of £24.14 meaning they are almost £10 clear of their nearest rival. Today's pick as the best bet is FOR GINA in the final race at Fakenham, a winnable looking handicap hurdle. She won over this C&D in November with Bryony Frost in the saddle and the combination renews friendships here, so she should take all the beating despite a 5lbs rise. Spotlight from the Racing Post is second in the standings and is one of three experts that fancy El Jefe to make the hat-trick he is currently on a four timer by landing the 15:00 at Fakenham, the race before the leader's Nap gets takes her chance. Lambourn has recently risen to third in the table, although things are tight around that mark in terms of profit level, and they side with an AW runner in Pontius in the first at Wolverhampton as the best bet of the day.

Naps Table Leaders Best Bets

  • The Punt - 15:30 Fakenham - For Gina
  • Spotlight - 15;00 Fakenham - El Jefe
  • Lambourn - 17:00 Wolverhampton - Pontius
  • Premierisation began with a disappointing turn out from jumps horses at Cheltenham on New Year's Day. The heavy ground won't have helped. but the powers that be will be praying numbers pick up as the new year progresses.
  • Stage Star was pulled up in defeat at Presbury Park and has been pushed out to 7/1 to win the Ryanair in March as a result. Time will tell if this is an overreaction from the odds compilers...
  • Bob Olinger was back to his best in a thumping Relkeel Hurdle win, but antepost punters must practice caution. He is in the same ownership as Teahupoo and Irish Point, leading contenders for the Stayers' Hurdle, and connections seem set to run him in the Champion Hurdle as a prep for their Gold Cup, the 2 and a half miler at Aintree.
