How weather impacts sports betting and fantasy football

The Action Network analyzed average weather conditions at each NFL stadium over the course of the 2021 regular NFL season to see which teams were impacted most by weather. Stadiums with a roof were taken out of their analysis.

The Seattle Seahawks were most affected by rain last season. The average monthly rainfall was 5.26 inches.

The NFL stadium most influenced by snow was the Buffalo Bills’ Highmark Stadium. Highmarks recorded an average monthly snowfall of 23.72 inches.

Chicago’s Soldier Field takes the lead in this category, recording average monthly winds of 12.9 mph. Lambeau Field (Green Bay Packers) recorded an average wind speed of 12:4 mph, which is a close second.

The Miami Dolphins deal with the highest average temperatures. The seasonal average was 74.4°F.

The weather plays a very important role in the NFL. Extreme temperatures have a minimal impact on scoring. Strong winds can change the scoring outcome of a game. Snow slows the game down. It can affect the over-under number. It doesn't sway the odds for one team or another. The main takeaway is that it doesn’t affect favorites or underdogs. it can only affect projected scoring points. This often increases the overall projected score. Green Bay Packers are the coldest team. Last season the average temperature at Lambeau Field was 38°F. During the month of January last season it was 19°C.
