Philadelphia Aims To Beat Fatigued Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes enter Saturday’s matchup with the Philadelphia Flyers in the second half of a back-to-back. In case you missed the NHL news, the Hurricanes lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday.

That now makes it three losses in their last four for the Canes but can they get back ontrack on Saturday?

Carolina Slumping, Remains Dominant Defensively

The Hurricanes have lost three of four but it’s mostly been a lack of offense that’s done them in. They’ve scored a total of two goals in the three losses.

Part of the challenge has been that their offense took a massive hit recently when Andrei Svechnikov was ruled out for the season with a knee injury. Svechnikov was tied for the second-most points on the team with 55.

His absence could create a huge hole in the offense that will need to be filled. It’s going to be interesting to see how they handle that injury. Those who bet online have seen that this has hampered the team’s morale in the short term.

The good news is that defense is the calling card for this team as they’re second in goals allowed per game at 2.50. The only team that they trail is the far and away best team, the Boston Bruins, at 2.16.

If you’re taking them with your NHL picks, you’re banking on them winning a low-scoring affair.

Injuries Hurting Philadelphia

Philadelphia has been struggling throughout the entire season and that’s part of why they are still in the low 20s when it comes to wins. On their defense, the injuries have really hurt them lately.

Travis Konecny was hurt toward the end of February and remains out for the next few weeks. Despite nearly a month-long absence, he still remains the top points scorer with 54.

If that already wasn’t bad news, their best goalie Carter Hart might not be available. He’s listed as day-to-day with an illness but was able to get on the ice on Friday. He might be out on Saturday as it’s a back-to-back.

If Felix Sandstrom takes over, you’ll have to downgrade the Flyers in the sportsbook. He’s just 1-10-1 with a 3.37 GAA this season.

Hurricanes vs Flyers Picks and Prediction

This looks like it’ll be a one-sided affair. The Hurricanes have beaten the Flyers in all three of their previous matchups this year. On top of that, their defense is stellar with multiple goaltenders providing top-tier play.

Philadelphia is the opposite as they have defensive and goaltending issues, and injuries are mounting. Carolina makes the most sense for your sports bets here. If not, under is a likely scenario too for sports betting purposes.

Carolina is listed at -230 in our Vegas NHL lines. So, if you wager $100 on the Hurricanes, there’s a chance to win $43. Philadelphia is +190 with a chance to win $190 on a $100 wager.
