Johnny Ward: Crowds return, Mullins lands treble and JP McManus tactics key

Johnny Ward reports that the first day of the four-day extravaganza was dominated by the champion trainer JP McManus.

After two years of no crowds, the Festival is back. Willie Mullins has already won three horses. Saint Roi won the novice chase. Mark Walsh and JP McManus are happy with their horses' performance. The entry fee of €40 was a talking point today. Leopardstown was only open to owners and members for the four days. It remains to be seen if Sir Gerhard makes the Arkle this year. Jonbon is the favourite. The race is at Leopardtown at 8.50 pm. There are no tickets for general public. They are available for members. For general general admission, there are tickets available at €30.

Mullins won the treble at Leopardstown. High Definition won a maiden hurdle. Did I Ask You That was grabbed on the line by the Elliott-trained Pour Les Filles. Gala Marceau finished second.
