Minnesota Vikings Betting Lines: Preview, Odds, Spreads, Win Total, and More

The Minnesota Vikings had a very successful regular-season campaign last year, going 13-4. Entering the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the NFC, they had a disappointing home playoff loss in the Wild Card Round to the New York Giants.

Despite coming off a season in which they won the NFC North, the expectations are relatively low for the Vikings in 2023. They’re +3500 to win the Super Bowl and have the second-shortest odds to win their division.

Will the Vikings perform better than expected yet again this season? In this betting preview, we break down the Vikings’ futures odds, give out a best bet, and more.

Minnesota Vikings Offense

Kirk Cousins had one of the best seasons of his career last year under first-year head coach Kevin O’Connell. WR Justin Jefferson played a huge role, having an incredible season with over 1,800 receiving yards.

He will have a new wide receiver to share the field with this season, as the Vikings drafted WR Jordan Addison in the first round to replace Adam Thielen. Another change in this offense is Alexander Mattison replacing Dalvin Cook at running back. Mattison was Cook’s backup for four seasons and has big shoes to fill at the position.

Elsewhere, there isn’t much turnover on an offense that was seventh in yards per game last season. They’ll have a full season of TE T.J. Hockenson on the roster after a midseason trade. He was a very reliable security blanket for Cousins in the second half of 2022.

Minnesota Vikings Defense

This will be the biggest question mark for the Vikings in 2023. Last season, they were the 31st-ranked defense in yards allowed per game, only better than the Chicago Bears, who had the worst record in the NFL.

To fix their defense, the Vikings hired former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores to be their defensive coordinator. This won’t come easy for Flores, however, as this unit might be even worse on paper than a year ago, with only five starters returning from last season.

One Betting Trend To Know

Overs are 22-12 in Vikings games over the past two seasons, the best in the league, according to Inside Edge.

Best Bet for the Vikings in 2023

Blewis: The Vikings had a lot of luck in 2022. They went a remarkable 11-0 in one-score games last season, an NFL record, and went 2-4 in all other contests. This is a stat that historically indicates some regression in the win-loss column the following season, especially for a team that won 11 of 13 games by just one score.

Their tendency to win one-score games and lose by multiple scores in others played a big factor in them finishing with a negative point differential of -2 last season.

In some alternate universe where the NFL playoff seedings were based on point differential instead of win-loss record, the Vikings would’ve been the No. 7 seed as opposed to the No. 2 seed last season.

I don’t see enough value in their win total, but I’ll take the slight juice on them to miss the playoffs. Minnesota Vikings -114 to miss the playoffs (on FanDuel)
