Mohammad Hafeez Resigns From PCB Technical Committee Hours Before Pakistan 2023 World Cup Squad Announcement

Hafeez announced his decision hours before Pakistan’s World Cup squad announcement, fuelling further debates on the team’s readiness for the upcoming World Cup. The conference was called by PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf to perform an autopsy on the Super Fours exit in the recently concluded continental event. Skipper Babar Azam, head coach Grant Bradburn, chief operating officer Salman Nasser, head of international cricket Usman Wahla and former leader Misbah-ul-Haq were the attendees.

The 42-year-old announced his decision to step down over a post on X (formerly Twitter), thanking Ashraf for the opportunity. He conveyed his heartfelt wishes for the team’s World Cup campaign.

“I decided to leave Pakistan cricket technical committee. I served as honorary member. I would like to thank Zaka Ashraf sb for giving me this opportunity. I m always available whenever Zaka Ashraf sb need my honest suggestions for Pakistan cricket. My best wishes for Pakistan cricket as always. Pakistan Zindabad”, wrote Hafeez.

According to PTI, chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq skipped the meeting as he deemed it to be inappropriate for his team after such a gruelling outing. He felt that players should be treated with empathy and encouraged rather than facing an inquiry which would create mistrust. However, he attended the press conference on September 22 to announce the 15-member World Cup squad.
