Carolina is not as sound at goaltender and Calgary's defensive-minded style will be difficult to keep up with the Eastern Conference's fast-paced offenses.
Pittsburgh Penguins are 4-0-1 and top the Metropolitan Division with 9 points. Sidney Crosby has 10 points, while Tristan Jarry is 4th in the NHL with a .941 SV%, top five in NHL. The Penguins have not won the division since the 2013-14 season.
The Philadelphia Flyers are rebuilding and have a winning record to start the season. John Tortorella is the new head coach. Rookie players Noah Cates, Egor Zamula and Tanner Laczynski are in good hands. Goalkeeper Carter Hart is one of the main reasons the team has a good record.
Neither PA team is among the early-season favorites to win the Eastern Conference. The Penguins are still in the top half of the league. Flyers are the second-least likely to do so.
The New York Rangers are the Metropolitan Division favorites. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin is getting better with each passing year.
