Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Cricket World Cup 2023: Expected lineups, head-to-head, toss, predictions and betting odds

Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in the eighth match of the 2023 Cricket World Cup in Hyderabad on 10 October. The match will be the second of the day, following England vs Bangladesh.

Pakistan began their World Cup campaign with a win at this venue on Friday. Batting first, they overcame an early wobble to post 286 against Netherlands. In the second innings, the Pakistan bowlers ensured the Dutch never got away from them, eventually bowling them out for 205.

Sri Lanka found themselves on the end of a whirlwind South African batting innings in Delhi on Saturday, as centuries from Quinton de Kock (100), Rassie van der Dussen (108) and Aiden Markram (106) powered the Proteas to 428/5, the highest-ever World Cup total. In reply, Sri Lanka could only muster 326.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka: Prediction for CWC 2023 match

If this match is anything like the teams' previous meeting, in the Asia Cup, then we should be in for a treat. Pakistan are perhaps the favourites, but not by much. Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf will be key if they want to unsettle the Sri Lankan batters.

What is in Sri Lanka's favour is the fact that the pitch at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium has aided spin, and will already have some wear from the previous matches. Their spin attack is superior to Pakistan's, and if Maheesh Theekshana recovers after missing the first match, this could end up deciding the contest.

This match could go either way, but Pakistan are more likely to win as Sri Lanka will need more assistance from the conditions in order to get a positive result.
