Punter turns £2 into £6,716 with freak four-fold of horse racing results

A PUNTER turned just £2 into £6,716 after predicting a freak set of horse racing results.

The Betfair customer ensured they had a Saturday to remember after turning the £1 each-way poke into a serious return.

They cut it fine, though, placing it just nine minutes before the first horse ran.

Il Ridoto, trained by 13-time champion trainer Paul Nicholls, obliged in the 1.50 at Cheltenham.

Ridden by Harry Cobden, Il Ridoto returned 9-2 SP but the shrewd bettor got on at 11-2.

Next up was 8-1 Dargiannini, trained by Nicholls' nephew and protege Harry Derham.

Sent off 11-2 he was eased home by seven lengths under a confident ride from Paul O'Brien at Uttoxeter.

Next up was Maximilian, who won a hard-fought three-way battle by a length in the Grade 2 River Don at Doncaster at 17-2.

Trained by Donald McCain, the punter beat SP there after the seven-year-old gelding was sent off 13-2.

It meant it all came down to the final horse, Tip Top Mountain, who ran in the 3.07 at Uttoxeter.

They could have been forgiven for ripping up their slip when the 11-1 poke was headed by Hometown Hero late on.

But Tip Top Mountain fought back valiantly to win by a nose in the 2m4f thriller.

Betfair spokesman Barry Orr commented: "Tip Top Mountain, the fourth and final leg, traded at 18-1 in-running when headed, but he showed a steely resolve to battle back and win on the nod.

"A fantastic bet and it’s great to see such a big win for a £2 stake."
