Rangers vs Senators Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

The New York Rangers are in contention to claim the Presidents' Trophy and will stick Igor Shesterkin in net against the mediocre Senators. With New York bleeding shots, our NHL picks expect Shesterkin to see plenty of action.

I challenge you to script a more disappointing start for the Ottawa Senators given preseason expectations. This isn’t the place to air dirty laundry, and the Sens have games in hand to turn their season around. Perhaps, the tidy 2-0 win over the Seattle Kraken on Sunday was the first step in flipping that script.

Ottawa plays host to the New York Rangers on Tuesday at the Canadian Tire Centre, and big things are beginning to be expected for the Blueshirts in the Big Apple. The Rangers are a road favorite in the NHL odds, and they continue to affirm their position among the betting favorites in the Stanley Cup odds with an active three-game winning streak.

New York also appears to have No. 1 netminder Igor Shesterkin back to his old self and in Vezina form, and I'll be taking advantage of one of his NHL player props for this matchup against Ottawa. Find out which one in my free NHL picks for the Hurricanes vs. Jets on Tuesday, December 3.

Rangers vs Senators predictions

The New York Rangers might be rolling, but they’re also giving up shots in bunches. Igor Shesterkin has faced 35 shots per game across six starts since returning from a lower-body injury Nov. 18. It hasn’t been much better for backup Jonathan Quick, either. He’s seen an average of 30.3 through his three starts during the stretch.

Additionally, the uptick in shots and attempts allowed dates back to third-line center Filip Chytil sustaining an upper-body injury. The Rangers have surrendered the sixth-most shot attempts per 60 minutes (63.7) at 5-on-5 with the 24-year-old center out of the lineup.

The good news, as noted, is Shesterkin has returned from his own injury in top form and is reinforcing why he’s trading among the favorites in the Vezina Trophy odds.

He’s posted a .919 SV% and 3.01 goals saved above average during the stretch, and I particularly value Shesterkin’s .857 high-danger SV% is way above his .759 pre-injury mark.

While I don’t try to handicap motivation, it’s impossible to ignore the Ottawa Senators skidding out to a 9-10 start and sitting in the Atlantic Division basement. I'm expecting them to show up Tuesday and show why rank eighth in the league in shots per 60 minutes (32.1).

As a result, I am comfortable giving the nod for Shesterkin to make at least 29 saves Tuesday.

My best bet: Igor Shesterkin Over 28.5 saves (-110 at SIA)

Rangers vs Senators same-game parlay

Rangers moneyline

First period Under 2.5 goals

Senators team total Under 3.5

All three legs of this same-game parlay correlate with Shesterkin having a solid night against the Senators. I would price the Rangers moneyline at -147, so there’s value compared to the -139 SIA moneyline odds for New York.

Additionally, after the Rangers allowed a pair of first-period goals and five total to the basement-dwelling San Jose Sharks on Sunday, I’m anticipating attention to detail being priority No. 1 for the Blueshirts against the Sens.

Rangers vs Senators moneyline and Over/Under analysis

There has been back-and-forth action on this moneyline. The early money came in on the Rangers, and then there was buyback on the Senators. While bettors have been weighing back in on the New York side again Tuesday, I think we’ve reached the happy medium, and I’m not expecting significant movement in the coming hours.

The widely available 6.5 total is juiced to the Under, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a few sportsbooks test the number at 6.0.
