Penn State's players, coach and radio broadcast team wear white No. 34 jerseys to honor Franco Harris. Harris wore that number at Penn State and with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Utah was a slight betting favorite over Penn State in the Rose Bowl until the last 30 hours before the game. The point spread moved from 1.5 points to 1,5. Penn state is now a betting favourite by the same number. The action is even, with slightly more money on the Utes than the Nittany Lions.
