Sharks vs Jets Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

With Mikael Granlund missing the last six games and the Sharks being off since January, he hasn't played in over a month. Our NHL picks don't expect him to make much of an impact against the Jets' incredible defense.

The Winnipeg Jets are as heavily favored as they’ve been all year tonight when they host the San Jose Sharks who last played on January 31. The massive +333 underdogs will also be without their two best players, Tomas Hertl and Logan Couture.

The Winnipeg offense has been in the dumps even with the acquisition of Sean Monahan, but one thing that has been profitable has been the Jets’ ability to keep opposing goals off the board. Without two top-six forwards, should bettors fade the San Jose offense, especially with all the rust thanks to the two-week hiatus?

I break down the NHL odds and offer my free NHL picks for the Sharks vs. Jets on Wednesday, February 14.

Sharks vs Jets odds

Sharks vs Jets predictions

It’s been a rough season for the San Jose Sharks who are tied with the Blackhawks for the fewest wins in hockey at 14. Valentine’s Day won’t be any easier for the struggling franchise as tonight will be its first game since January 31, while the Winnipeg Jets have played three games since the All-Star break.

The Jets might not be scoring many goals, but they're locking down opponents and allowing just 1.94 goals per game since Christmas. Considering the rust, matchup, and injuries to Tomas Hertl and Logan Couture, this is a terrible offensive spot for the Sharks.

Their team total Under 1.5 is +110 which is implying roughly 1.9 goals tonight, and although I’m on Winnipeg to win the first period at -105, Mikael Granlund to go pointless at -115 is my best bet here.

Granlund is the No. 1 offensive player with Hertl and Couture out, but he's still running an offense with no skilled player and the power play is 1-for-21 over its last 10 games. This team could take a period just to find its legs, and Granlund has been off for even longer than his team.

The San Jose forward has missed six straight games with an upper-body injury and last played over 30 days ago. He is averaging 20:35 minutes of ice time on the season but will be hard-pressed to touch those numbers tonight with all the time off.

He'll also have to get the puck past starting goalie Connor Hellebuyck, who is the betting favorite to win the Vezina.

My best bet: Mikael Granlund Under 0.5 points (-115 at SIA)

Sharks vs Jets same-game parlay

Jets moneylineUnder 5.5

Jets first-period -0.5

The Jets should take an early lead vs. a team that hasn't played since January 31. Winnipeg has been the king of winning low-scoring games as it boasts one of the best Under records in hockey while also having the No. 3 point percentage since the start of December.

Over that stretch, Winnipeg is averaging just 4.71 total goals per game. I'd doubt San Jose hits the two-goal mark tonight, especially with a power play that has just one goal over its last 10 contests.

Sharks vs Jets moneyline and Over/Under analysis

Winnipeg opened as a massive -450 favorite at SIA and hit as long as -500 this morning before moving back to -450. It might be a buy-point for the Sharks for some bettors thanks to the massive plus odds, but that would mean betting on a team that hasn’t played since January 31, is without its two best forwards, and is tied for the fewest wins in hockey.

Stranger things have happened and the Jets’ offense hasn’t scored more than two goals in seven straight games, but this Winnipeg offense will come around and tonight might be that day vs. a rusty shorthanded opponent.

There is no value in betting anything with the Jets as even the puck line is -161. This is the shortest Winnipeg has been all year and the previous game where they were favored the heaviest was vs. Chicago as a -300 home favorite in a 3-1 win. This schedule spot is certainly priced in.

San Jose, on the other hand, has been a +300 dog 11 times this year with the longest on a non-back-to-back game being +360. They are 3-8 SU and have won two straight games as a +300 or more dog — +330 vs. LA on January 22 and +300 vs. the Rangers on January 23.

I’d have to expect this to be a low-scoring game with the shape Winnipeg's offense is in. It hasn't found the chemistry with the new addition of Monahan, but the total is sitting at 5.5. If the Jets find the scoring touch and San Jose is flat, it could be 3-0 Winnipeg early.

I’d prefer to play the Sharks team total Under 1.5 at plus money than any other total. Winnipeg has been one of the best Under teams in hockey this year with a 15-28-7 O/U mark and a lot of that has been holding its opponents to one or fewer goals in 10 of the last 28 games.

The Jets’ top line will feature Nick Ehlers, Mark Scheifele, and Kyle Connor, while the second line will feature Monahan, Gabe Vilardi, and Cole Perfetti.
