Sydney Thunder v Melbourne Renegades preview
Melbourne Renegades pinched a six-run derby win over Melbourne Stars in their last Big Bash fixture despite the fact that the struggling Stars, with seven wickets in hand, required just 21 runs off the last 25 balls for victory.
That result boosted the Renegades' chances of making the playoffs but they are slight outsiders to follow up against Sydney Thunder on Thursday and their batting unit could buckle against impressive all-rounder Daniel Sams.
The Thunder star took 4-18 from four overs in Sunday's defeat to Hobart Hurricanes, dismissing in-form opener Caleb Jewell and internationals Zak Crawley, Matthew Wade and Asif Ali.
That ended a run of three games without a wicket for Sams but before then he had taken at least two scalps in five of his previous six outings, including 3-33 in December's narrow loss to the Renegades in Melbourne.
The Renegades have been heavily reliant on Sam Harper, who has scored 51, 63 and 89 in his last three innings and is 7-2 to top-score for the fourth game in a row.
