The 2022 JCB Triumph Hurdle: Statistics, trends, history and video replays

The JCB Triumph Hurdle takes place at Cheltenham on Friday 18 March at 1.20 pm. It's a Grade One race with a distance of 2m1f (eight hurdles). The prize money is £95,000.

Nicky Henderson is the most successful trainer in the Triumph Hurdle with seven wins. Barry Geraghty is most successive rider with five wins in this race. The JCB Trial at Cheltenham in January is not a good route to this event. A more profitable route is Spring Juvenile Huddle at Leopardstown in February. All six Irish winners of the past 10 years ran at this venue. Since the creation of Fred Winter Hudle in 2005, the winner has come from the first four in betting in 12 of 17 renewals.

The JCB Triumph Hurdle was first run at Hurst Park in 1939. It was transferred to Cheltenham in 1965 and moved to The Festival in 1968. The Daily Express and the Elite Racing Club sponsored the race from 1965 to 1996 and since 2000. J CB has backed the competition since 2002.

The 2022 JCB Triumph Hurdle is scheduled for renewal.

Quilixios won the JCB Triumph Hurdle for new trainer Henry de Bromhead and owners Cheveley Park Stud. Rachael Blackmore rode him to victory. Adagio came second and Haut En Couleurs third.

Farclas won the Gold Cup on the last day of the 2018 season. It was Ireland's 16th winner of this week. The winner was a 9-1 chance, having finished second in two previous starts.

Defi Du Seuil won the race by five lengths from Mega Fortune. Richard Johnson rode the Philip Hobbs-trained gelding. Bapaume finished second. Johnson was riding after injury forced Barry Geraghty to miss the meeting.

Joseph O'Brien's son Ivanovich Gorbatov won the 2016 Festival. Ivanvich Gorbattov was ridden by Barry Geraghty. Apple's Jade came second and Footpad third. The ground was to blame for the defeat.

Peace And Co won the Gold Cup for Nicky Henderson. It was the sixth time he had won it since his first win with First Bout 30 years ago. Peace Andco followed up a stunning British debut at Doncaster with a more workmanlike effort at Cheltenham in January. Top Notch and Hargam were also in the mix under AP McCoy.

Davy Russell won the Gigginstown silks race on Tiger Roll. Russell came in for the mount after Bryan Cooper was injured. Tiger roll won by three-and-a-quarter lengths. Gordon Elliott trained the horse. It was only Tiger's third start and he had finished second to Guitar Pete in Grade One company.

Our Conor won the JCB Triumph Hurdle by 15 lengths in the hands of Bryan Cooper. The Dessie Hughes-trained juvenile extended his 100% record over jumps to four. Far West came second and Sametegal third.

Countrywide Flame won the JCB Triumph Hurdle at the Yorkshire Festival. His trainer John Quinn and jockey Dougie Costello were surprised by the result. Hisaabaat was beaten three lengths in second, Grumeti by three-quarters of a length, Dodging Bullets fourth.

In 2010, Soldatino had only arrived at Nicky Henderson’s stable in January. He was overtaken at the start by Barizan, who had a 25-length advantage. Barry Geraghty set off in lone pursuit and caught Bariza after the last flight. Soldatsino won by a length and a quarter.

2009 Zaynar won the race. Nicky Henderson-trained horse was fitted with cheekpieces for the first time. Walkon and Mourad had a strong challenge from the home turn.

Andy Stewart's horse Celestial Halo won the JCB Triumph Hurdle at the Festival. Alan King, the trainer of the hot favourite Franchoek, was among the first to congratulate Stewart.
