Top 10 B1G storylines heading into Early Signing Day

National Signing Day has lost some of its importance. Ohio State and Michigan signed top-10 recruiting classes in 2020 and 2022. Texas A&M needs to develop its talent. The top 10 storylines on Day 1 of the 3-day Early Signings Period are:

Ohio State is the top-ranked recruiting class in the Big Ten. The last time the Buckeyes didn't lead the way was in 2019. Brandon Inniss, Noah Rogers and Carnell Tate are the main stars of the class.

Penn State has the No. 2 recruiting class in the Big Ten for the second straight season. Running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen and linebacker Abdul Carter made big splashes this season, while quarterback Drew Allar looks ready to take the reins next year.

Wisconsin and Purdue are in the middle of the Big Ten rankings. Nebraska started the week with the 50th-ranked class. Matt Rhule has hustled together some late commitments to push the Cornhuskers up to 44th.

Jim Harbaugh's interview with the Minnesota Vikings probably has consequences.

Ohio and Maryland are going to offer sports betting. Michigan's recruiting rankings have dropped since Jim Harbaugh left for Minnesota. The Wolverines are 19th overall, breaking a string of 4 straight top-13 classes. They have the nation's top transfer class according to 247 Sports.

2022 was a banner recruiting class for the Big Ten. Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State all inked top-10 classes. For the first time, all 14 Big League programs signed a top 50 class. This year, only Ohio is expected to bring in a Top 10 class, and only 2 5-star recruits have committed to Big Five programs.

Iowa's offense sputtered this season. Kadyn Proctor, the No. 2 offensive tackle in the country, flipped his commitment to Alabama. Iowa's ranking drops from 4th in B1G and 24th nationally to 5th and 35th.

Wisconsin's recruiting has taken a serious tumble in the last two years. Luke Fickell's last 5 Cincinnati classes rated in 40s overall.

Bret Bielema has two recruiting classes in the 40s for Illinois. Lovie Smith's last two classes ranked 73rd and 87th.

Northwestern is going to bring in the 39th-ranked signing class. It's the program's best since the Class of 2001. The program is coming off its worst season on the field since 1989.

Indiana football has a disappointing recruiting class. The team has 9 commits and is ranked 88th nationally. They are behind Air Force, Eastern Michigan and Campbell. The top-rated player in the class, edge rusher Dasan McCullough, is already at Oklahoma.
