UFC Fight Night: Andre Fialho vs Joaquin Buckley

Location of the fight: UFC APEX, Las Vegas, NV.

Date and Time: Saturday, May 20. 7:00 PM ET.

How to Watch: ESPN+

Fialho is looking to get back into the winning column after two straight losses via knockout in 2022.

Buckley is looking to bounce back from back-to-back losses in 2022 as well.

Fialho is one of the most exciting fighters to watch on the roster. He fights with a ton of pride, and will basically either KO or get KO’d every time he steps foot in the octagon. The fighting style that Fialho has seems to not be good for longevity in the sport, averaging 3.17 significant strikes landed per minute and a whopping 6.12 significant strikes absorbed.

The Portugal native hasn’t attempted at takedown in his UFC career so far, so the wrestling game is a question mark–but don’t expect there to be much wrestling in this matchup on Saturday in the APEX.

Buckley had a loud start to his UFC career after having one of the best knockouts in MMA history. Since then, he has found himself losing some fights and getting KO’d in the process. He is moving down a weight class to get away from all the bigger guys and will look to restart his trek to a title.

He is a 5’8 southpaw with a lot of power in his hands. In his UFC career, Buckley averages 3.87 significant strikes landed and 3.53 absorbed per minute. He also will mix in some level changes, averaginig 1.23 takedowns per 15 minutes in the octagon.

No injuries have been reported to the UFC or NSAC.

The division newcomer will be the -210 betting favorite over Fialho at +180, according to UFC odds. The oddsmakers are trusting the power and athletic ability of Buckley to translate well in a new division.

An interesting prop bet is the fight going the distance at +200. This means oddsmakers don’t expect this one to go to the scorecards, both men are willing to take a shot to give one. One of them is most likely going to land cleanly on the other and knock them out.

This will be a high-pace striking match. It will depend on how much respect they will have for each other’s power, but there’s a strong feeling that it won’t take long for one of them to start letting their hands go.

In our opinion, this fight should be even closer to pick ‘em odds because of the power of both guys. At some point, the technical skill and gameplan will go out the window, and it will be these two sitting in a phonebooth trading shots.

It is very difficult to make a Fialho vs Buckley prediction because of the style of fighters both men are.

After studying the betting lines and watching film of past fights, this fight is even more difficult to make UFC picks on than we thought.

These two are similar fighters in many ways. They fight with a lot of ego, a lot of pride, and they throw pretty much every strike with bad intentions. This has been great for their careers, but have also been a downfall in a handful of their fights.

The official Fialho vs Buckley prediction is that Fialho will get his hand raised. This was very tough to pick, especially leaning towards the underdog. The reasoning behind this pick falls on the way Buckley fights and isn’t focused in some exchanges.

Fialho will make someone pay for any bad judgment in the cage. Also, moving down in a weight class could go horribly wrong for a fighter. The weight cut might do damage to Buckley’s durability and cardio.
