As well as a marathon 3m6f trip, the runners and riders have to navigate 32 obstacles of a varying nature on Cheltenham’s specialist course that tests speed, stamina and skill.
Tiger Roll is the most successful horse in the history of the Cross Country Chase with three wins, but the Grand National legend was denied a fourth success in last year’s renewal on his farewell as stablemate Delta Work pipped him to the post in a thrilling finish.
