1 NY Mets drought we will see broken in 2023 and who will do it

There are multiple droughts that the New York Mets will be looking to end going into the 2023 season with all eyes on the larger goal of winning the organization's first World Series since 1986. Outside of that drought, which will have to be a collective team effort, I believe there is another drought that the Mets will end next season on an individual basis and that is having a Gold Glove Award winner for the first time since 2014.

It's hard to believe that the Mets have not had a Gold Glove Award winner since 2014 when centerfielder Juan Lagares took home the award. Last season the Mets had numerous candidates that were deserving of the award for their defense including shortstop Francisco Lindor, catcher Tomas Nido, and second baseman Jeff McNeil. Many fans, myself included, thought Luis Guillorme was also deserving of the new Gold Glove Award that went to the best defensive utility player that went to St. Louis Cardinal Brendan Donovan.

Well, Mets fans I'm here to tell you that the drought ends this season. The Mets' defensive prowess last season was a large reason why they played so well for the vast majority of the season, which in the past has been a huge liability for the team. This year the Mets are going to break the drought with shortstop Francisco Lindor taking home the hardware for the third time in his career.

Lindor, who currently is a two-time Gold Glove Award recipient and a one-time Platinum Glove Award winner, had the second-most outs above average among all shortstops in baseball last season with 13. Lindor wasn't even considered a finalist for his own position last season despite many around baseball lauding him for his incredible range and defense last season.

With the shift leaving baseball next season, Lindor will have more of an opportunity to show off that excellent range by playing up the middle where he has previously stated he is more comfortable playing, rather than shifting around the infield out of position As a matter of fact, it's no secret that Lindor has been very outspoken in regards to banning the shift in baseball and he is now one of many players who are happy to see it dissolved.

While I believe Luis Guillorme will also be right in the thick of things for a chance to win his first Gold Glove Award as well as a utility player in 2023, I'm going with Francisco Lindor as the sure bet to win the award next season.
