The Caulfield Cup is the most important race in the Australian racing calendar. It is held on the first Tuesday of November. The winner of the Caufield is guaranteed a place in racing folklore. In 1937 it was won by The Trump. The Donald also won the Melbourne Cup in 1937. There are 18 thoroughbreds going to the race on Saturday. They are all trying to win the Cup.

The Caulfield Cup is a handicap for three-year-olds and upwards over 2400m. It's a mile-and-a-half shorter than the Melbourne Cup. The field is restricted to 18 runners, unlike the Melbourne Cup, which has 24.

The Caulfield Cup is a $3 million prizemoney race. The winner gets $1.75 million and the 10th horse home gets only $75,000.

The Caulfield Cup is on Saturday, 4:30pm AEDT.

The Caulfield Cup is taking place at the course in eastern Melbourne. It will be broadcast on Channel 7, Racing.com, or Sky Racing, and on the internet on Fox Sports.

Jameka is the short-priced favourite in the Australian Grand Prix. She is trained by young trainer Ciaron Maher. Jamek came third behind Hartnell at her last start at Flemington. Before that she won by 3.8 lengths against a good field over 2000m at Caulfield.

Will Exospheric has had all 10 of his starts in Britain but has been bought by Australians and is now trained by the Freedmans.

2016 Caulfield Cup is on.

1. Preferment is going for it. He's trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Hugh Bowman. The horse is in barrier 15 and has a topweight of 57kg.

The Caulfield Cup starts at 2pm. Our Ivanhoe is a former foreigner trained by the Freedmans. He finished third in the race last year.

3. Exosphere is a former foreigner trained by the Freedmans. He's going to race in barrier 3. It's his first start in three months. Damien Oliver is suspended for the rest of the carnival.

4. Scottish has barrier 7, which has hatched four winners since 2000. Won four and placed five of 11 starts in Britain.

He's only tried to race at Group 3 level once and came fifth in a G2 race in France.

SIR ISAAC NEWTON is a well-credentialed staying invader. Aidan O'Brien is his trainer. Sir Isaac Newton won two races in England and Ireland in June.

6. TARZINON is playing in the Caulfield Cup.

Barrier 2 won the Geelong and Sandown cups last spring. Barrier 2 has finished no better than eighth or third-last this preparation.

8.8 Sir John Hawkwood is the second English-raised knight of the realm represented here. He won his last start over this distance in G1 Metropolitan at Randwick.

9.8 Artibus is a bay trained by Andreas Wohler. WOHler won the Melbourne Cup with Protectionist. Articus has won four races in Europe, the best of which was a G3 in July.

The Caulfield Cup starts on 10.10. It's on a 10-minute delay. The entry price is $18.80.

Jameka is the favourite for the Caulfield Cup. Last year's winner was a four-year-old mare.

Darren Weir's horse won the Caulfield Cup last start at Moonee Valley. The Darren Weir Experience is worth $8.70.

SACRED MASTER is a contender for the Caulfield cup on Saturday. He has barrier eight and a nice light weight.

Scratched might go sit in the stands and chant inanities with his tennis-loving band of knobby namesakes.
