2022 Draft Lottery Preview: New Rules, New Odds

The NHL Draft Lottery takes place tomorrow, May 10, at 3:30 pm PT. The non-playoff teams will have a chance to earn the first or second overall selection in the 2022 draft. Last season's draw was made to introduce new rules to the lottery. Teams that win the draft lottery can only move up 10 spots. The rules change will take effect from 2022. It will also limit the number of lottery draws and the odds of winning. They will no longer be held more than twice over a five-year period.

The 2022 NHL Draft will be held on July 7 and 8 at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. Round 1 will proceed on 7th July, with Rounds 2 and 7 the following day. San Jose finished the 2021-22 season with the 22nd-best record in the League. The Sharks have the 11th-most-improved lottery odds based on the inverse-order rankings. They have 3% odds at winning the first draw. If they don't win, their odds increase for the second draw based upon who wins the 1st round.
