2022 Jockey Club Derby Invitational Betting Odds and Contenders Preview

Nations Pride and Classic Causeway will meet in Saturday's Caesars Jockey Club Derby at Aqueduct. The winner will get an automatic berth to the November Breeders’ Cup Turf. There are only five competitors in the final leg of the Caeresars TurF Triple.

The field for the Jockey club derby drew Wednesday, September 14. The morning line is a good indicator of which horses will be favorites and who will run as long shots. It is still a great idea to keep an eye on the odds as post time draws closer to make smarter bets on race day.

The Jockey Club Derby is the longest race in the turf series. Classic Causeway is going to be the lone pace on paper. Nations Pride won the Belmont Derby at 26-1. Ardakan won an Italian Derby in May and finished third in last month's Grosser Preis von Berlin.

Classic Causeway won his debut at Saratoga at 13.60-1. The chestnut colt is a Kentucky West Racing LLC and Clarke M. Cooper homebred. His dam, Private World, was a two-time stakes winner and the daughter of 1995 Derby and Belmont S winner, Thunder Gulch.

Bay Gelding, Wicked Fast and Wicked Charm are the other horses in the Jockey club's Invitational. Wicked fast won his first race for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott.

Nations Pride was bred in Ireland by Godolphin and is a top international turf three-year-old. He won two of three starts in 2021 at the age of two and finished eighth in the Cazoo English Derby.

The Grey Wizard, Daunt and Ardakan are the main contenders in the Jockey club's Jockeying Invitational. The Grey wizard graduated in March traveling 10 furlongs over the Dundalk synthetic. Daunts finished third in Awad in November. Ardackan won the G2 Italian Derby earlier in his campaign and finished 3rd in G1 Grosser Preis von Berlin.

The Jockey Club Derby Invitational Invite takes place on September 8, 2022. The Europeans dominated the Turf Trinity last year. Spanish Mission won the inaugural running on Sept. 8 2019. The event was not renewed in 2020. Tango Tangoma Tongo finished second in the Bruce D at Arlington Park.

The Jockey Club Derby is scheduled as race 10 on an 11-race card. The card also includes the Grade 3, $700,000 Jockeying Club Oaks for 3-year-old fillies.

Aqueduct Racetrack is the only racetracking in New York City. It is located in South Ozone Park in the borough of Queens. The main track has a circumference of 11.8 miles and two courses: the Main Turf Course and the Inner Turfing Course. In the 1960s and 1970s, the track was a popular raceway for Hall of Fame horses like Kelso, Buckpasser, Damascus, Dr. Fager, Secretariat, and Forego.
