2022 United States Grand Prix Odds, F1 Picks & Betting Predictions

Forrmula 1 returns to the Circuit of The Americas after Max Verstappen was crowned champion in a shortened, wet race in Japan. Red Bull are on the verge of being crowned constructors’ champions at Austin.

We predicted that Verstappen would be crowned champion last time out in Japan and here in Texas, it looks likely that Red Bull will take that constructors’ title for the first time since 2013. 

Here are the race odds on sports betting sites and betting apps.

Last time out, Verstappen won the title in somewhat controversial circumstances at Suzuka where he took pole position – by the slightest of margins we’ve seen in 2022 – and then won the race. 

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc had finished second on the road but was demoted to third after cutting the final chicane at Suzuka, giving Sergio Perez second and Verstappen enough of a margin to win his second consecutive World Championship. 

No one could have predicted how the race would have panned out last time but it was a safe bet to predict Verstappen would take victory, which he did in a shortened race thanks to heavy rain. And if you did take those odds of +1100 on sports betting apps for Verstappen to lead home Perez in Japan, well done.

This weekend in Austin it’s set to be dry, and the only thing that could shake up the grid are engine penalties. Of the frontrunners, Perez is most likely to be dropped down the grid for Sunday’s race as it would be harsh to give him a new engine and the penalties for his home race in Mexico.

Ferrari will be hoping to bounce back after Verstappen sealed Red Bull’s seventh win in a row – but it’ll be tough for them to take the spoils in Texas…

2022 United States Grand Prix Betting Predictions

In our predictions for the Japanese Grand Prix, we hinted that qualifying might have been too close to call – and it really was. Just 0.010s split the top two as Verstappen beat Leclerc to pole position in Japan. 

In the United States, the picture isn’t much clearer. Verstappen and Leclerc will be close bar any huge mistakes, while Carlos Sainz will be hoping to keep tabs on the pair having qualified just 0.064s off the pace in Japan. 

Verstappen is favorite for pole at +120 via Caesars Sportsbook, and you can head to BetMGM as they offer +160 for Leclerc or +450 for Sainz take pole. The Dutchman is likely to take pole but Ferrari still have serious pace to deploy on Saturdays, so I’d put a small punt on Leclerc to win qualifying as those odds seem generous. 

Still, it really is anyone’s guess before Free Practice 1 begins on Friday. It’s probably safer to put money on Verstappen, Leclerc and Sainz to start in the top three with BetMGM offering F1 betting odds of +450.

When it comes to the race, those aforementioned engine penalties will come into play and it’s worth waiting for news on those – news that normally drops around the start of Friday practice. If Perez takes a grid drop, you can count him out of victory as the winner at COTA has only ever come from first or second on the grid. If Perez does take grid penalties, odds of +375 at BetMGM Sportsbook for both Ferraris to finish in the top three look enticing. 

It's also worth heading to BetMGM for odds of +150 for both Verstappen and Leclerc to finish in the top two on Sunday. 

The odds may hint that Mercedes are in the running for a shock victory here but they’re definite outsiders, given high temperatures, tire degradation and bumps will curtail their performance. Alpine gave them a run for their money in Japan and at +200 (BetMGM) for Fernando Alonso to finish in the top six, you could cash in on the French team’s improved pace. 

The other bet we pointed out in Japan was for Perez to finish second in the drivers’ championship, and he did edge ahead in the standings after outdoing Leclerc. Odds for the Mexican to be antepost winner of the championship without Verstappen have now been shortened to +120 via BetMGM.
