NBA bettors can wager Over/Under on regular-season win totals ahead of the NBA’s opening tip on Oct. 24.

We’re offering advice, insight and strategy to consider prior to placing your wager(s).

2024 NBA win totals and Over/Under picks

NBA Eastern Conference win totals: Odds and best bets

Boston Celtics win totals prop: Over 54.5 wins (+100 or better)

It’s fair to lament the grit and spirit Boston surrendered when dealing away Marcus Smart and Grant Williams. But it’s perfectly reasonable to consider Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis clear upgrades on a roster that won 57 games last season.

Milwaukee Bucks win totals prop: Under 53.5 wins (-118 or better)

The Bucks pulled the move of the offseason when they acquired All-NBA guard Damian Lillard to pair with 2-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and first-year head coach Adrian Griffin.

The Bucks are certainly a legit title contender, but it’s a good idea to bake potential growing pains and chemistry development into your expectations.

Brooklyn Nets win totals prop: Over 37.5 wins (+110 or better)

So much of the Nets’ outlook hinges on how healthy Ben Simmons is, both physically and mentally. They feature interesting talent around him, including stud-in-the-making Mikal Bridges and shot-blocker extraordinaire Nic Claxton.

Don’t be surprised if Brooklyn ends up faring better than people are expecting.

Detroit Pistons win totals prop: Over 27.5 wins (+110 or better)

Head coach Monty Williams takes over a young team with considerable talent, including former No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham, who is healthy and coming off a productive summer at Team USA training camp.

The Pistons need to mature overall, but a mildly surprising 23-24 season is within their reach.

Washington Wizards win totals prop: Over 23.5 wins (+110 or better)

Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis are on new teams, but don’t completely write off the Wizards, who still have Kyle Kuzma in the fold.

New point guard Tyus Jones will have a chance to start while Jordan Poole can grow away from the shadows of Steph Curry and Draymond Green.

NBA Western Conference win totals: Odds and best bets

Denver Nuggets win totals prop: Under 52.5 wins (-124 or better)

It’s not uncommon for the reigning NBA champion to play with a little less urgency in the subsequent (regular) season. The Nuggets have plenty of talent, but it will be imperative for them to cultivate some depth from among their collection of young players who are ticketed for more playing time.

Phoenix Suns win totals prop: Under 52.5 wins (-122 or better)

The Suns made a major splash of their own, acquiring Bradley Beal to pair with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. It’s a lethal three-headed monster that the team will want to keep fresh and whole for the postseason.

The quality of the supporting cast will likely be a work in progress throughout the winter, but it’s trending in the right direction.

San Antonio Spurs win totals prop: Over 28.5 wins (+104 or better)

The Victor Wembanyama hype can be deafening, but by all accounts, the sky's the limit for the 2023 No. 1 overall pick. He won’t be alone though.

The Spurs have a solid roster overall with scoring on the wings and a steadily improving point guard in Tre Jones. Not to mention, arguably the greatest NBA coach to patrol a sideline.

Oklahoma City Thunder win totals prop: Over 44.5 wins (-110 or better)

The Thunder look like a playoff team behind bonafide NBA superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and their enviable core of young talent. That includes 2022 No. 2 overall pick – and Rookie of the Year sleeper – Chet Holmgren.

Houston Rockets win totals prop: Over 31.5 wins (-110 or better)

The Rockets are still very young, but hired Ime Udoka as head coach and added veteran leadership in Jeff Green (15 years) and Fred VanVleet (7).

Keep an eye on second-year big man Jabari Smith Jr., who is on “breakout watch” after delivering respectable production as a 19-year-old rookie.

Portland Trail Blazers win totals prop: Over 27.5 wins (-114 or better)

Expectations are modest – to say the least – sans Damian Lillard. The roster still features plenty of young talent, namely high-scoring guard Anfernee Simons and No. 3 overall pick Scoot Henderson.

Finally, if newly acquired big-man Deandre Ayton finds his fire as a primary piece, Portland may be better than people expect.

2023-24 NBA win total betting strategy and considerations

Betting on futures requires micro-research, but it’s also important to look at the big picture. Consider the following macro-factors before placing your wagers.

Talent and Depth

Ultimately the teams with the best collection of talent typically enjoy the most success.

Top-of-the-line NBA talent is just the start though. Which rosters feature the horses to absorb injuries and achieve consistency over the course of a grueling 82-game season?

Coaching Matters

The players come first but quality coaching can be the difference between eeking out a win on a given night or falling just short. Take some time to become familiar with the coaching staff of teams on which you want to wager.

Organizational Philosophy and Team Evolution

Some teams and organizations place different degrees of focus on regular-season dominance, and it can change from season-to-season. A veteran team well-within its title-winning window may be willing to sacrifice a handful of regular-season wins in light of the big picture.

Conversely, a young, up-and-coming team may need to learn how to sustain winning habits. Bettors may need to dig a little deeper to understand where a team stands on this spectrum, but it’s valuable information to mine prior to placing bets.
