We're set for an intriguing season in the Big 12. It’s the final year for longtime football powers Texas and Oklahoma, and the first for newcomers BYU, Central Florida, Houston and Cincinnati.

As we head toward kickoff, here's a look at 2023 Big 12 win total odds and predictions.

2023 Big 12 win total picks: Win total odds for Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas State, more

It was a historic season last year for Texas Christian University. The Horned Frogs made the College Football Playoff championship game before losing to Georgia. With the recent Big 12 makeover, let’s take a look at some win total projections for the 2023 season.

2023 Texas win total picks: Over 9.5 wins (-140 or better)

The Longhorns’ most intriguing player might be on the bench. The nation’s top quarterback recruit, Arch Manning, isn’t scheduled to start the season. The nephew of Peyton Manning and Eli Manning hasn’t been able to get past sophomore Quinn Ewers for the starting position.

The Longhorns have to replace NFL first-round draft pick Bijan Robinson in the backfield, but they have plenty of depth at that position. The Longhorns return all five starters on the offensive line. Texas' defense led the nation in quarterback pressures last year, and most of that unit has returned.

Texas is the favorite to win the conference title at +115, ahead of Oklahoma (+300) and Kansas State (+500). The Longhorns could make their final year in the Big 12 a memorable one. Take the Over. And, if you're so inclined, take Texas to win the conference.

2023 Oklahoma win total odds: Under 9.5 (-118 or better)

Oklahoma was 6-7 last year, 3-6 in the Big 12, the Sooners’ first losing season since 1998.

The Sooners have an interesting September schedule. They are at Big 12 newcomer Cincinnati and home vs. rising Iowa State. Then, on Oct. 7, against Texas at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, the site of a 49-0 win by the Longhorns last season.

If fortunes change this season for the Sooners, expect quarterback Dillon Gabriel and running backs Jovantae Barnes and Gavin Sawchuk to lead the way. The OU offense averaged more than 30 points a game last year, but the defense allowed more than 30, ranking 99th nationally.

It’s quite a climb from 6-7 to 10 wins, even with what has to be an improved defense. Take the Under.

2023 Baylor win total picks: Under 7.5 wins (-188 or better)

Baylor won the Big 12 in 2021, and coach Dave Aranda was the hot coach everyone talked about. But the Bears' defense allowed 26.8 points per game in 2022, and a 6-7 season followed.

This season’s schedule has eight home games, but it includes Pac-12 power Utah, Texas, Iowa State, Houston and West Virginia. Baylor has challenging games at UCF, Cincinnati, Kansas State and TCU. Getting to eight wins seems a bridge too far. Take the Under.

2023 Big 12 win totals: UCF Under 6.5 (+138 or better)

The Knights take a big leap from the American Athletic Conference to the Big 12. UCF was 9-5 last season.

Central Florida has a dual-threat quarterback in John Rhys Plumlee, who led the team in rushing with 862 yards. He threw for 14 touchdowns but also eight interceptions.

UCF has road games at Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech this season. They don't play Texas this year, which helps.

UCF also has a rough non-conference game at Boise State. We can't see them getting to seven wins. Play the Under.

2023 Kansas State win total picks: Over 7.5 wins ( -180 or better)

If K-State can successfully replace all-purpose running back Deuce Vaughn, the offense might purr. Quarterback Will Howard is back for his fourth season. He threw for 15 touchdowns in just seven games last season.

The Wildcats' best defensive player, linebacker Daniel Green, unexpectedly stayed for his senior season. The defense should be stout in a conference that emphasizes wide-open offense.

K-State could jump out to a 4-0 start before road games at Oklahoma State and Texas Tech and a home game vs. TCU. The Wildcats have to visit Texas and rival Kansas. Still, the Wildcats have enough on both sides of the ball to warrant an Over play.
