2023 Jockey Club Gold Cup morning-line odds, picks, post time: Racing insider offers betting strategy for Saturday's race

The Ken McPeek-trained Rattle N Roll will try to get back into the winner's circle when the starting gate opens in the 2023 Jockey Club Gold Cup on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York. The 4-year-old son of Connect is coming off a second place finish in the Stephen Foster Stakes, which ended a three-race winning streak. For Saturday, he has been installed as the 9-5 morning line favorite in the 2023 Jockey Club Gold Cup odds. Proxy is 2-1 second choice in the eight-horse 2023 Jockey Club Gold Cup field, while Tyson is 5-1. Post time is 6:18 p.m. ET.

With several accomplished horses set to enter the starting gate on Saturday, you'll want to see what Saratoga Springs-based racing insider and Beyer Speed Figure maker Bob Weir has to say before making any Jockey Club Gold Cup picks.

A member of the Beyer Speed Figure-making team, Weir is a two-time qualifier for the prestigious National Horseplayers Championship in Las Vegas. He has produced multiple five-figure days at the track over the years, including a $60,000 Pick 6 at Del Mar in 2014.

Last year, he was red-hot in the Triple Crown prep races, hitting the superfecta in the Blue Grass Stakes for $1,678 and exactas in the Fountain of Youth Stakes and Tampa Bay Derby. He also hit the 19-1 winner of the Man o' War Stakes, the trifecta in the Pegasus World Cup, the superfecta in the Met Mile and multiple Pick 4s.

In April of this year, he hit a Pick 4 at Gulfstream Park for $641, the exacta in the Florida Derby, a Pick 5 at Keeneland and the exacta in the Lexington Stakes. He smashed the trifecta in the Belmont Stakes for $532.96, and later in June, he crushed a Pick 4 at Belmont for $555. Those are just some of his scores this year.

Now, Weir has handicapped the 2023 Jockey Club Gold Cup field, made his picks and constructed his bets.

One surprise: Weir is high on Tyson, even though he's a 5-1 shot. "This 4-year-old son of Tapit has done little wrong in his career, winning four out of five including a Grade 3 and Grade 2 in his last two starts," Weir told SportsLine. Weir is using Tyson prominently in his 2023 Jockey Club Gold Cup bets.

Weir is high on a big double-digit longshot who "has pace ability in a race that is looking for a leader." Weir is including this horse in his 2023 Jockey Club Gold Cup bets, and so should you. You ABSOLUTELY NEED to see his picks before locking in any of your own.
