2023 RBC Canadian Open odds: Canadian veteran is our long-shot pick

The 2023 RBC Canadian Open begins this week at Oakdale Golf & Country Club, and we’re eyeing a Canadian Tour veteran as our long-shot pick to win. Here’s our pick, the RBC Canadian Open odds and betting favorites and everything else you need to know for the week.

RBC Canadian Open odds: Long-shot bet

Our long-shot pick for this week’s Canadian national championship is a homegrown Canuck, Nick Taylor, who comes in with +6600 odds-to-win.

Taylor is a PGA Tour veteran and two-time winner who is having a solid season in 2023. He’s collected four top-10s (not counting a runner-up at the Zurich Classic team event) so far, with his best result coming at the WM Phoenix Open, where he finished second.

Taylor has missed the cut in his last two starts at the PGA Championship and Charles Schwab Challenge, so there is plenty of risk in taking him this week, but his record this year shows a recent MC isn’t always a bad thing for Taylor.

In the next start following a missed cut this season, Taylor has finished T23, T7, T20, MC and T10, which shows he often is able to translate a poor performance into positive motivation for his next event.

Should you bet $10 on Taylor to win and he takes home the title in front of the Canadian faithful, you’ll earn $660. For additional bets and some insurance, considering placing small bets on him to finish top 10 and top 20.

Looking for more long shots to wager on? This week’s long-shot honorable mentions are Adam Svensson (+6600) and Brendon Todd (+6600).

RBC Canadian Open odds: The favorites

With many stars sitting this week out to rest up for next week’s U.S. Open, there is one prohibitive favorite in the field: Rory McIlroy.

The World No. 3 is coming off a disappointing Sunday slide at the Memorial, but he’s the defending champion at the Canadian Open (albeit at a different course) and the best player teeing it up, so the oddsmakers have his chances to win at +400.

In second place behind Rory is Tyrrell Hatton at +1100, followed by Matt Fitzpatrick and Sam Burns, who are tied with +1400 odds-to-win.
