RBC Canadian Open Betting Tips

This week on the PGA Tour we head to Oakdale Golf and Country Club in Toronto, Canada for the 2023 RBC Canadian Open where we are offering up some of our very own betting tips and predictions.

The Canadian Open was first played 119 years ago in 1904 and has been held annually ever since, making it the third oldest continuously running tournament on the PGA Tour after The Open and US Open.

It’s also the only PGA Tour-managed national championship.

RBC Canadian Open 2023 Preview

This year’s defending champion is world number three Rory McIlroy, who beat Tony Finau by two shots with a score of -19. The 34-year-old is available at a price of 9/2 with golf betting sites.

McIlroy is aiming for a third straight Canadian Open win after success last year and in 2019 – the 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. No golfer has ever earned three consecutive triumphs in the tournament.

Oakdale Golf and Country Club plays host to the Canadian Open for the first time, the 37th course in the tournament’s 117-year history. The front nine plays nearly 400 yards longer than the back due to the club’s usual 27-hole layout being converted into an 18-hole championship course.

Described as a traditional tree-lined classic parkland style course over tumbling land, the key at Oakdale this week will be consistency off the tee and ability to find fairways. Careful and skilful approach play is also likely to play a significant role.

Ahead of the third major of the season next week – the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club – the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Patrick Cantlay have opted to skip this event in Canada, leaving a weaker field of 156 at Oakdale.

Ten players from the Official Golf World Ranking’s top 30 will feature here: McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick, Sam Burns, Cameron Young, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry. Sahith Theegala, Justin Rose and Corey Conners.

RBC Canadian Open Tip 1: Corey Conners To Win And Each-Way @ 16/1 with BetUK

Records are there to be broken and this week Corey Conners will set out to become the first Canadian-born golfer to win the tournament since Karl Keffer in 1914.

Last year, Conners’ impressive final-round 62 (-8) saw him finish in sixth place – seven shots off winner McIlroy, but enough to take home the Rivermead Cup as the best performing Canadian.

Wayward hitters off the tee will be punished and golfers who find the rough are set for an uphill battle, listed as 4-to-6-inch Bentgrass. Conners, who ranks 22nd and 21st in strokes gained off the tee and in approach amongst tour players, should feel comfortable here.

The 31-year-old from Listowel, Ontario, which is a 1hr 45 min drive from Oakdale, also ranks 11th in greens in regulation percentage this season (68.91%). Approaches inside 125-150 yards will be decisive and he ranks 18th in that range.

The course features three reachable par-5s and four par-4s measuring under 400 yards, meaning irons and short wedges could be the key to victory this week.

Priced at 16/1 with the best golf betting sites, SportsLens’ headline each-way tip for the RBC Canadian Open is Corey Conners.

RBC Canadian Open Tip 2: Matt Kuchar To Win And Each-Way @ 40/1 with BetUK

In what has been an up-and-down season for Matt Kuchar on the tour, two disastrous rounds of 79 and 84 on Thursday and Sunday masked what could have been a promising week at The Memorial Tournament.

Sandwiched by a five-under-par second-round 67 and a third-round 69, Kuchar showed signs that his game is still there. He recently finished tied-third at the Texas Open in April and has three top ten finishes this season.

The 44-year-old is one of five players to finish in the top 20 in the last five Canadian Opens alongside McIlroy, Mackenzie Hughes, Shane Lowry and Ricky Barnes.

He also finished fourth in this tournament back in 2019 at 13-under-par, nine shots adrift McIlroy at the top. At a price of 40/1, Matt Kuchar is our second each-way pick at SportsLens for the RBC Canadian Open.
