2023 Women’s World Cup: Australia vs. Denmark odds, picks and predictions

In a Round of 16 matchup, Australia (2-0-1) and Denmark (2-0-1) meet Monday in the 2023 Women’s World Cup at Stadium Australia in Sydney. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Australia vs. Denmark odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Australia ended up winning Group B, just edging out surprising Nigeria, which beat the Matildas in group play. Australia ended up notching 7 goals in the 3 games, while conceding just 3. The Aussies routed Canada 4-0 last time out, putting an exclamation point on the group after a slow start.

Australia star striker Sam Kerr has been unable to feature in any of the 3 games to date, as she has dealt with a calf ailment. It’s uncertain if Kerr will be able to play vs. Denmark. She was an unused substitute against Canada last time out.

Denmark ended up in 2nd place in Group D, just getting by China 1-0, falling to table-topper England 1-0, and beating Haiti 2-0.

The Danes have never won a World Cup knockout game. These teams met in an international friendly last year, with Denmark opening with the 1st goal, while Australia rattled off 3 unanswered markers to win 3-1.

Australia vs. Denmark picks and predictions

Prediction

Australia 1, Denmark 0

AUSTRALIA (-110) will have the home-pitch advantage in Sydney against a Denmark (+300) team, which is a big underdog, and a side that has never won a Round of 16 match.

The Aussies can win this one with or without Kerr, although the addition of the star striker would be huge against a Danish defense that has been extremely turgid during this tourney.

UNDER 2.5 GOALS (-185) should come through, although that’s a pretty heavy price tag. The Matildas did see 4 or more goals in each of the previous 2 matches, notching 6 goals while conceding 3. However, Denmark’s defense will offer a lot more resistance, and the stakes are much higher, too, so the intensity will be ratcheted up tremendously.

If you’re a little less on the conservative side, and enjoy adventure, consider UNDER 1.5 REGULAR TIME GOALS (+165) at plus-money. If this game ends in a scoreless draw, or a 1:0 decision either way in regular time, you’d be a winner.

In addition, under the “both teams to score and total goals” prop section, I like NO AND UNDER 4.5 GOALS (-150).
