2024 Australian Open: Tennis Best Bets for Day 4

The 2023 tennis season feels like it ended just yesterday, but the 2024 Australian Open is here. There’s going to be tons of high-level action in Melbourne Park over the next few weeks, and that presents all sorts of opportunities for bettors. Throughout the course of the 2024 tennis season, VSiN will have you covered with daily best bet write-ups for some of the biggest events of the year. That starts with the 2024 Australian Open, and we’re tackling the action for January 16 and 17 here. Keep reading for all of my best bets and check back throughout the day. I’ll add some plays if I see some numbers I like later on. 

2024 Record: 19-18 (0.30 units)

Andreeva is somebody I said could make a run when I wrote up my 2024 Australian Open preview, and I also mentioned her as a threat when I went on A Numbers Game a few weeks ago. The teenager is just outrageously talented, as she’s one of the quickest players on tour. That allows her to play world-class defense, but she also has an improving serve and a lethal backhand. Andreeva is just a dangerous player right now, and it won’t be long before she starts competing for Grand Slams. I’m not sure this tournament will be the true breakout for her, but I do like her chances of beating Jabeur. The Tunisian relies on smoke and mirrors to beat her opponents, but Andreeva covers the court so well that she might not fall for any of that. Andreeva is also 4-1 since the start of 2024, so she’s riding some momentum here. Meanwhile, Jabeur is lacking in form right now. 

Bet: Andreeva ML (-102 – 2 units)

Tsitsipas seems to be dealing with a somewhat significant back injury, as he was arguably the best server on tour in 2023 and has been serving with a new motion since arriving in Melbourne. That resulted in a meeting with Zizou Bergs that was a little too close for comfort in the first round, and Tsitsipas might have lost to an opponent with a little more game. Well, he’s getting that in the second round, as he’s taking on Thompson. The Australian has something of a polarizing personality, but he should have the crowd support here. And that will make him difficult to beat, as he already has a sturdy game. I just like Thompson’s chances of putting his head down and holding serve, while also hoping for an opportunity or two to break. He should be able to take advantage if he gets them. That’s why I’m taking Thompson to win a set and also sprinkling the moneyline. I really think he’s live here.
