The world number 2 is starting her Australian Open campaign against the world number 98, Zidansek. Here is what I predict for this first-round match, which goes hand in hand with other tennis predictions today:

Zidansek vs Jabeur – Match Predictions

Ons Jabeur enjoyed one of the best 2022 seasons of anyone on the WTA Tour. She shot to the world number 2 after winning a Masters 1000 title and making two Grand Slam finals. As for her opponent, Tamara Zidansek, it’s been quite a different story. She has played some of the lower-level WTA tournaments throughout 2022 while also competing on the Challenger Tour.

This shows a clear difference in the level of these two players and what kind of events they are used to. Of course, Jabeur is much more experienced in these larger tournaments, which is why I think she will win this match quite comfortably. Yet from a betting perspective, you obviously want to make wagers that have at least some value to them. On that note, I’ve found the following:

Under 18.5 Games

Given the huge difference in rankings between these two, I reckon this could be a whitewash in Jabeur’s favour. The odds for Jabeur to simply win the match don’t justify that market. Therefore, I am shooting for under 18.5 games, with the prediction that Jabeur could win the match easily.

Jabeur Game Handicap -5.5

Since I believe that Ons Jabeur could walk this one, I’m choosing to shoot for a -5.5 game handicap too. For this to occur, ideally, you’d need Jabeur to win two sets without dropping more than five games. Given how consistent she is, I really do think that this is a suitable market, and the odds are very enticing.

Zidansek vs Jabeur Preview

Now that you’ve got two betting tips to work with, let me disclose some other interesting details for these players.

Tamara Zidansek Preview

Zidansek has been on the tour for just a handful of years, which is quite different from her older opponent. Specifically for the Australian Open, she’s never made it beyond round three, although she did achieve this last year in 2022. And currently, she is down at 98 in the world rankings – 96 places lower than Jabeur.

Ons Jabeur Preview

Ons Jabeur has been on the four full-time for around a decade. She is one of the most improved players in recent times, as reflected in her performances in 2022. Jabeur has also made the finals of the last two Grand Slams that she’s played in. So who knows, maybe now is her time to go and lift her first major title?

Zidansek vs Jabeur Head to Head

Looking at the head-to-head for these players, things stand at 1:1. However, they haven’t competed against one another since 2019, and that was on clay. Zidansek actually won that match in straight sets, but that was before the huge improvements we’ve witnessed with Jabeur.
