We’ll see 23 Scottish Grand National runners heading to post for Saturday’s £200,000 Ayr showcase, with the Nicky Henderson-trained Dusart heading the weights with 12st.

Scottish Grand National Runners: 23 Entries Confirmed for Saturday’s Big Ayr Race

We’ll see 23 Scottish Grand National runners head to post for Saturday’s £200,000 Scottish Grand National as the final entries were confirmed on Thursday.

Despite a maximum field of 30 runners allowed at this final declaration stage we saw 8 Scottish Grand National runners pulled out.

These included the Irish Grand National runner-up Gevrey, who will not be sent over from the Gordon Elliott yard in Ireland. Alan King’s Midlands National third Notachance will also not run, while the others to be taken out were Oscar Elite, Revels Hill, Sail Away, Coolvalla and Domaine De L’Isle.

Kitty’s Light Heads the Scottish Grand National Betting

12 months ago we witnessed the Christian Williams-trained Win My Wings land the Eider Chase at Newcastle and then follow-up in the Scottish Grand National a few months later. And this is exactly what another Williams runner – KITTY’S LIGHT – will be attempting to do this Saturday at Ayr racecourse.

Kitty’s Light stayed really well to take the 2023 Eider Chase back on February 25th and since then has been kept fresh for a second try at the 2023 Scottish Grand National this weekend, after running second in the race last year.

He’s the current Scottish Grand National favourite @ 9/2 with the best horse racing betting sites.

Christian Williams Will Also Run Cap Du Nord

Last year’s winning yard, Christian Williams will also have Cap Du Nord running in Saturday’s Coral-sponsored 4m race. The 10 year-old was also left in at the final latest declaration stage and despite running below-par the last day at Kempton in the Coral Trophy, would be a player on his Swinley Chase win at Ascot in February.

Lucinda Russell’s ‘Grand National Double’ Dream Still Alive

Last weekend’s Grand National-winning trainer Lucinda Russell has two entries too as her dream of winning two big Nationals inside a week is still alive.

The Aintree-winning handler will run her 2021 Scottish Grand National winner – Mighty Thunder in the race, who is rated 19lbs lower this time. While she’s also got the consistent Your Own Story, who has already proved he stays when winning over 3m7f at Wetherby last month.

Trainer Ginger McCain was the only other trainer to win both Nationals in the same season, when Red Rum landed the Scottish and Aintree races in 1974.

Dusart Will Run With Top Weight Of 12st

Trainer Nicky Henderson is yet to win the Scottish Grand National, but he could be putting that right with Dusart still one of the 23 Scottish Grand National runners. The 8 year-old was last seen pulling up in the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham on Trials Day at the end of January so needs to bounce back.

He’s still only had five career runs over fences though – winning three and being a 150+ rated horse would bring some class to the race. However, this class comes with a price as he’d be the top weight in the race with 12st. While he’ll be Henderson’s first runner in the race for four years.

The Last Irish-Trained Scottish Grand National Winner Was In 1869

We’ve also got two Irish-trained runners – Malina Girl and Flash De Touzaine – in the race. However, the pair will be looking to end a monster run of 154 years since the last Irish-trained Scottish Grand National winner.

Okay, it’s hard to know how many have tried, but it was a horse called Huntsman that last came over from Ireland to win the race in 1869!

Monbeg Genius Cheltenham Form Franked By Corach Rambler

Another horse that Scottish Grand National punters have been latching onto this week is Monbeg Genius. This Jonjo O’Neill runner was last in action running third to a certain horse called Corach Rambler at the Cheltenham Festival (watch below).

As we all know, the form of that run has seen been given monster boost with Corach Rambler winning last Saturday’s Aintree Grand National. If successful, Monbeg Genius would be Jonjo O’Neill’s first winner in the race.
