$300 winner and a $1.01 shot beaten at Caulfield

Caulfield Cup Day saw a number of short priced runners go down right across the country. That short price was before and very much during races.

Perhaps it was an ominous sign that on Friday night at the Melton Trots we saw Norms Lady matched for more than $1800 at $1.01 before losing.

Tropical Squall was the raging favourite and one of the best backed runners of the day at Caulfield leading into the Ethereal.

He looked home in the straight and traded as low as $1.14 before going down at betting siteBetfair.

The theme continued as Spacewalk traded at $1.01 in play before getting overrun by Doull in the Caulfield Sprint. Doull was already a $16 relative roughie but traded over $300 in the run before winning.

Accelar was another $1.01 pop to go down, this time at Eagle Farm. He had nearly $3000 matched on him at that price, whilst the winner Devine Force was matched as high as $580!

Rhesus was another who traded short in the run at Kembla Grange, hitting $1.07 before losing to Written Silk who hit $95 at the same time.

In the final event at Morphettville, Sghirripa opened at $2.20 before finding trouble and hitting $95 in the run before winning.

To top it off, Riff Rocket was $1.34 to win the second event at Caulfield, but was beaten by Sunsets.
