Against the Odds: Coventry City's heroic FA Cup triumph

Manchester City's FA Cup victory in 2011 was the start of their dominance in English football. The FA cup is no longer the pinnacle of most of the top six clubs, but it was once more prestigious than it is today. Coventry City won the FA in 1987 against Tottenham Hotspur.

Both sides recorded songs to commemorate reaching the FA Cup final. Spurs brought London Musicians Chas and Dave to record the song “Hot Shot Tottenham” and Coventry released the single ‘Go For It’ which reached number 61. Covent's Brian Borrows was injured and Micky Gynn replaced him in the starting XI. Tottenham fielded a full-strength squad and Chris Hughton played at right back in place of Gary Stevens.

Tottenham won the FA Cup final against Coventry City. Clive Allen opened the scoring for the hosts. Dave Bennett equalized for Covent in the 9th minute. Gary Mabbutt scored the winning goal for Tottenham in 41st minute after a foul on Thomas. The match was played in front of 96,000 fans at Wembley. It was held in a hot weather. Houchen scored the winner for Coventry City in the second half. The match finished 2-2. It went to extra time. Covent's Graham Rodger came on for Brian Kilcline. Nico Claesen came on for Covent in celebration. The last chance of Spurs' last-gasp effort was gathered by Ogrizovic. It was Coventa's last opportunity. They were crowned FA cup champions.
