Alex Molcan vs Felix Auger-Aliassime Predictions and Odds: Australian Open

Alex Molcan’s reward for coming through a five-set thriller with Stan Wawrinka is a match with Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. The Canadian dropped a set to fell countryman Vasek Pospisil on his way to a four-set victory but will still start this one as the heavy favourite. Here are some of our predictions for the match.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Alex Molcan vs Felix Auger-Aliassime Match Predictions

Auger-Aliassime is understandably the favourite considering his record and ranking. Ranked 7th in the world, the 22-year-old is expected to have a fantastic career and has been tipped to become a grand slam winner at some points. With no value on the Auger-Aliassime, let’s check out our predictions in closer detail.

Molcan To Win a Set

Molcan came through a gruelling match with Stan Wawrinka on Monday despite going into the game as the underdog. Although Wawrinka isn’t at the level he once was, he is still technically excellent and Molcan can be very proud of his performance to beat him. The Slovak has a dogged spirit and won’t let his head drop in any circumstances, meaning he’ll be a threat in each and every set regardless of the overall match scoreline.

Set 1 – Over 10.50 Games

Out of the nine sets that both men played in the first round, four of them went to a tiebreak. They are both good servers, and both like to hit the ground running early on. We expect the first set to be the tightest one of the match, and it should go beyond ten games. At 23/10, this is a great value bet considering the serving prowess of both men.

Alex Molcan vs Felix Auger-Aliassime Preview

With the predictions locked in, let’s take a closer look at each player.

Alex Molcan

Alex Molcan is playing in only his second-ever Australian Open after coming through the ranks relatively late. However, just because he didn’t burst onto the scene like his opponent did doesn’t mean he is lacking in talent or belief. Despite that, the Slovak number one has endured a rocky period of late. Victory over Wawrinka was his first win since October, ending a run of four consecutive straight-set defeats.

Felix Auger-Aliassime

Felix Auger Aliassime is one of the true powerhouses of the sport and has been a regular in the top ten for some time now despite still only being 22 years old. The furthest he has ever gone in a grand slam is the Semi-Finals and he’ll truly believe he has a shot of equalling or bettering that in Australia. His preparation for the tournament has been good and the early scare against Pospisil may well stand him in good stead in the long run.

Molcan vs Auger-Aliassime Head to Head

This will be the second time the pair have played against each other. The first time around, Molcan pulled off the upset on the clay in Marrakech.
