Alexander Zverev will meet Andy Murray in the Round of 16 of the 2023 Qatar Open. The match will be played on Wednesday February 22nd, 2023.

Fourth seeded Alexander Zverev begins his Qatar Open campaign with a very difficult Round of 16 clash against Andy Murray. The German has found things tough since making his return to the tour due to a serious injury, and finds himself in jeopardy of yet another early round loss. He has currently compiled a 2-4 record since returning and recently suffered a three set loss to Tallon Griekspoor in Rotterdam. He has the game to defeat anyone but we get the sense that his confidence is still quite low and he’s working his way to full fitness.

Andy Murray is unseeded here at the Qatar Open and has been having a relatively successful season so far in 2023. After a solid US Open where he reached the Round of 16, he has looked good so far here in Qatar, defeating the dangerous Lorenzo Sonego in three sets in the First Round. He can’t compete with the power of Alexander Zverev but certainly has the experience and consistency to handle him, and his confidence will be much higher than the German’s.

This has all the makings of a classic, and I am expecting a very close battle. Zverev has the edge in firepower for sure, but Murray has been playing well and there are few that can compete with his counterpunching skills and experience. It’ll be a tough one and I expect a three setter, but give me Alexander Zverev to win here and move on to the Quarter-Finals. Once he serves well I think he has the edge over Murray and he’s too good to be in this slump for long.
