In 2018, a young Alycia Baumgardner faced Christina Linardatou, with the latter coming out on top. Now, Baumgardner and Linardatou face off again, this time for the status of undisputed super featherweight champion.

Will history repeat itself on July 15, or will Baumgardner, the champion, come out on top at the Masonic Temple in Detroit? The bout, plus undercard action, will air on DAZN.

Since the loss yo Linardatou, Baumgardner has won eight in a row, bullying her opponents to become the undisputed champion. She stopped Terri Harper in her tracks, topped rival Mikaela Mayer, and outpointed Elhem Mekhaled to reach the top of the mountain.

This rematch with Linardatou will be her very first homecoming bout.

Linardatou has gone 4-1 since the Baumgardner fight, the lone loss coming to Katie Taylor in 2019. A WBO super lightweight champion, Linardatou has been out of action due to the birth of her child. Alycia Baumgardner vs. Christina Linardatou 2 predictions, best bets

Baumgardner is called “The Bomb,” and not just because it’s a catchy nickname.

She will hurt you.

Baumgardner has a +/- ratio of +8.1. She lands 11.7 punches per round while averaging 38.4 shots thrown, good for a 30.5% connect rate (seventh among active fighters in women's boxing). The 29-year-old is tied with Amanda Serrano for the third-most jabs landed per round (3.4) and lands 8.3 of her power shots.

When Baumgardner took down Harper to win the WBC belt, she landed 29 shots with 16 jabs. One devastating shot was all it took to knock Harper out on her feet. Baumgardner also limited her to 13 total strikes landed in four rounds. Against Edith Matthysse, Baumgardner landed 113 shots out of 315 thrown (35.9% accuracy rate, better than the Harper fight). When she faced Mikaela Mayer, Baumgardner landed 116 of 335 blows (34.6%), connecting with 34 jabs and 82 power shots.

The 35-year-old Linardatou has six wins via knockout. She steps into a 130-pound fight for the first time in five years and is just coming off an absence from the sport.

She’s motivated, but will that be enough to take down Baumgardner, who has gone on quite a run since they last fought?

In each bout she is in, Baumgardner’s power comes into play, and she grows stronger as the fight continues. Her opponents land 7.4 shots per round, giving her a solid defensive game compared to most within women’s boxing. Linardatou will have to dig deep to work past the offensive output of Baumgardner.

History will not repeat itself in Detroit based on the stats and their recent workload. Baumgardner will avenge the lone loss of her career, resulting in a satisfying homecoming.
