Arsenal v Man City preview

The 2023 Community Shield takes place this Sunday between Arsenal and Manchester City in a year which marks the 100th anniversary of the competition, and returns to Wembley Stadium after last season's edition was held in Leicester due to the ongoing Women's Euros.

Manchester City head into this weekend's bout having last season become just the second English team ever to win the continental treble of Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Pep Guardiola's squad hasn't changed much from last season, with Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez the only first team players from leaving the club, and Mateo Kovacic the only new player through the door at the time of writing.

The Citizens have played three pre-season friendlies in preparation for this weekend's curtain raiser, travelling to Japan to beat Yokohama and Bayern Munich before falling to defeat against Atletico Madrid in South Korea.

Arsenal earned their spot in this season's Community Shield after finishing second in last season's Premier League.

Mikel Arteta's side led the table for the majority of the season but fell at the final hurdle to an all conquering Manchester City side.

The Gunners have been busy in the transfer window as they prepare for the new season, which will be their first one back in the Champions League since 2017.

Granit Xhaka has left the club to join Bayer Leverkusen but Arsenal broke their transfer record to sign England international Declan Rice from West Ham for around £105m.

The North London club have also splashed cash on the Chelsea attacking midfielder Kai Havertz and the Ajax centre back Jurrien Timber as they look to compete in the latter stages of numerous competitions this time around.

Manchester City have won all of the last eight matches they've played against Arsenal in all competitions, though the Gunners have beaten City on both the prior occasions of meeting them in the Community Shield, most recently with a 3-0 win in 2014.

Arsenal v Man City betting tips

The majority of either sides' pre-season matches have been quite high scoring matches, which could mean taking a punt on both teams to score in each half and Man City or Arsenal to win in 90 minutes at 14/1.

Man City to win and both teams to score looks a tempting offer and has even been boosted to 12/5 odds, as does Julian Alvarez to score at any time which is now 23/20.
