Atlanta Braves: 2023 World Series Favorites

It’s coming down to crunch time in Major League Baseball’s 2023 regular season. Teams only have roughly 30 to 32 games remaining in their schedules. Following the weekend of action, it is the Atlanta Braves and the Baltimore Orioles that are the most likely to meet in the Fall Classic. Here’s a look at the betting odds for the 2023 World Series favorites.

Betting Odds: 2023 World Series Outrights

If you are hot or cold at this time of the season, then the impact on your betting odds is much more direct than from previous months. The Seattle Mariners, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Philadelphia Phillies are three teams that were long shots to win the 2023 World Series not that long ago. They have shortened following good form lately. Conversely, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Texas Rangers have drifted.

The odds below are from bet365. The shortening or drifting of the betting odds are relative to last week’s article, which is hyperlinked below.

  1. Atlanta Braves +270
  2. LA Dodgers +300 (drifted from +290 as per last week’s article on the same topic)
  3. Baltimore Orioles +700
  4. Houston Astros +750
  5. Tampa Bay Rays +800
  6. Texas Rangers +850 (drifted from +750)
  7. Seattle Mariners +1100 (shortened from +1400)
  8. Milwaukee Brewers +1500 (shortened from +2200)
  9. Philadelphia Phillies +1700 (shortened from +2200)
  10. Toronto Blue Jays +2200 (drifted from +1800)
  11. Minnesota Twins +2500
  12. Arizona Diamondbacks +3500 (shortened from +4500)
  13. Chicago Cubs +4000 (shortened from +4500)
  14. San Francisco Giants +5500 (drifted from +4000)
  15. Cincinnati Reds +6600
  16. Miami Marlins +9000 (drifted from +7500)
  17. Boston Red Sox +10000 (drifted from +10000)

In the last week, the Los Angeles Angels have basically fallen out of contention. Also, the San Diego Padres are now nine games below .500 and their chances of making the playoffs are remote.

2023 World Series Favorites: Braves vs Orioles

The top two favorites to win the World Series are the Braves and the Dodgers. However, these teams will be on the same half of the draw in the Major League Baseball playoffs. The betting odds would imply that the Braves would face the Orioles in the 2023 World Series.

American League Pennant Races

Looking at the division races, the AL East is now tight. Baltimore has just a two-game lead over Tampa Bay. The loser of this race will be relegated to the AL Wild Card race. You would expect the AL East No. 2 to be the AL Wild Card No. 1.

In the AL Central division, the Minnesota Twins still have a healthy lead. With a six-game lead over Cleveland, the Guardians cannot afford to give up any more ground over the next week. Cleveland will play six of their next nine games against Minnesota. The No. 2 team in the AL Central is not likely to win a Wild Card spot.

In the AL West, the Seattle Mariners have taken over the divisional lead, something that would have been hard to imagine just 10-11 days ago. However, the AL West remains very tight. Heading into August 28th, 2023, only one game separates three teams: Seattle, Houston, and Texas. The Rangers have been in a near freefall lately. In fact, Boston and Toronto, who have won just four games in each of their last ten, have been gaining ground on Texas in the standings despite poor form.

National League Pennant Races

In the NL East, Atlanta will surely win the division. They are 12.5 games up on Philadelphia, making the .554 Phillies NL Wild Card hopefuls.

The Brewers are starting to assert themselves in the NL Central. Behind eight straight wins, Milwaukee is now four games up on the Chicago Cubs. This is the only pennant race in the NL that is somewhat interesting. It does have some potential to be a hot race in September still.

In the NL West, the LA Dodgers are the presumptive pennant winners. They are 12 games up on Arizona with 31 games remaining in each team’s schedule. Arizona has gone 8-2 in their last ten games but that has still only seen them gain one game on the Dodgers in the standings. Even if Arizona went 28-3 for the balance of the regular season, which they won’t do, that might still not be enough to catch LA. The Dodgers have been a steady team for ages now.
