ATP Rolex Monte Carlo Preview and Best Bet

This week the ATP Tour heads to Monte Carlo for the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters 1000 event. The entire tennis world has been watching what’s been happening in Monte Carlo this week, as there are no WTA tournaments taking place this week.

Novak Djokovic

Headlining the news in Monte Carlo this week was Novak Djokovic, who made his return to ATP Tour competition. Djokovic is currently the #1 player in the world and had missed multiple flagship ATP tournaments in the U.S. this season due to coronavirus travel restrictions imposed by the government.

The ATP restrictions, however, have since been lifted by the Biden Administration, and Djokovic should have no trouble entering the states for the U.S. Open in August.

Djokovic was looking to make a statement this week and make it known to the tennis world that he is still the best player in the world, but just the opposite was proven. Djokovic defeated world #198 Ivan Gakhov in routine straight set fashion, but ultimately ran into trouble in his defeat to #21 Lorenzo Musetti.

Jan-Lennard Struff

Also making headlines this week has been world #100 Jan-Lennard Struff. The 32-year-old German has played some unbelievable ATP tennis this week, having already defeated world #50 Alber Ramos-Vinolas, #19 Alex De Minaur, and #4 Casper Ruud. Struff (+200) should fancy his chances against world #6 Andrey Rublev (-250) in what should be a tightly contested match.

Lorenzo Musetti

Musetti claimed the biggest ATP win of his career by taking down world #1 Novak Djokovic in a three-set thriller on Thursday morning. Musetti will look to keep his ATP Cinderella run alive against world #8 and compatriot Jannik Sinner.

Jannik Sinner – Best Bet

Jannik Sinner (+240) is currently the favorite to win Monte Carlo. The Italian has played near-perfect tennis over the past two months, and bettors should expect the 21-year-old Italian to continue to produce consistent results on the tennis court and advance to the finals with ease now that Djokovic was taken out by a much lesser player in Lorenzo Musetti.
