ATP Finals 2023 Day Five Predictions, Odds & Picks

One spot in the semifinals of the 2023 ATP Finals has been locked up, as 2020 champion Daniil Medvedev punched his ticket with a straight-sets win over Alexander Zverev on Wednesday.

On day five of the event, the final two green group matches will take place in Turin. Two of Novak Djokovic, Holger Rune, and Jannik Sinner will join Medvedev in the semis. Sinner and Djokovic are currently positioned to make the last four, but that could change.

In the first match of the day, Djokovic will take on Hubert Hurkacz, who replaced Stefanos Tsitsipas for this match after the 2019 ATP Finals champion was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a back injury.

In the nightcap, two of the top rising stars in tennis will be on display as Sinner and Rune face off. Sinner put himself in a strong position to reach the ATP Finals semis for the first time, but he will need to defeat the Dane to prevent tiebreakers from coming into play.

ATP Finals Day Five Predictions and Picks

Novak Djokovic vs Hubert Hurkacz

If you are hoping for an upset in this match, it’s highly unlikely to occur.

In his career, Hurkacz is 43-61 against players who have been ranked in the top 10 of the ATP singles rankings at some point, including a 15-25 record against players who were ranked in the top 10 at the time of the match.

All time, Hurkacz is 0-6 against Djokovic. This year, he lost to Djokovic in straight sets (3-6, 5-7) in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships and in four sets in the round of 16 at Wimbledon (6-7 (6-8), 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 4-6).

Of course, Sinner had been winless in four previous matches against Djokovic before his win on Tuesday, so never say never.

But I expect the world number one, who hasn’t lost consecutive matches in over a year and a half, to wrap up his spot in the semis in straight sets.

Djokovic vs Hurkacz Prediction: Djokovic to win

Djokovic vs Hurkacz Pick: Djokovic -4 (-110 at Bovada)

Jannik Sinner vs Holger Rune

If Sinner misses out on the ATP Finals semis after putting himself in position with his first win over Djokovic, it would be quite the disappointing result. I don’t think he will have to deal with that disappointment, however.

Rune has won both previous head-to-head meetings with Sinner, including a come-from-behind 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 win in the semis of the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this year.

But I really like how Sinner played in his first two matches in Turin, and I think he will carry that through to today’s match against Rune.

Sinner vs Rune Prediction: Sinner to win

Sinner vs Rune Pick: Holger Rune under 11 games won (-120 at Bovada)
