Awards Wrap: Radio Awards reactions, winners at the Hollard Sports Awards, National Presidential SMME Award is a win for African female driven SMMEs

The Radio Awards gala dinner was held on Saturday in Parktown, Johannesburg. Loyiso Madinga was the Master of Ceremonies. 91 winners were announced across 30 categories in Campus, Community, PBS, Public Broadcast Service and Commercial licence categories. Station of the Year awards went to 947FM (Commercial), SAfm (PBS), GrootFM and TuksFM. Hall of Fame inductees were Benjy Mudie, Hennie Koortzen, Mark Jennings, Nadia Bulbulia, Siphiwo Magoda and Trish Taylor.
Breakfast with Martin Bester won the Best Commercial Breakfast Show award for the second year in a row. Good Morning Angels won Best Station Community Project award. Bright Star and The Drive with Rob and Roz producer Owen Crafford was honoured with a bursary award at the SA Radio Awards. Jacaranda FM was the only Commercial radio station to receive three nods in the category for Best Radio Innovation. The station has become a relied upon platform for trusted news and family-friendly entertainment. It also promotes the best talent in SA radio. Rorisang Mkhumbeni was also honoured.
Primedia Broadcasting has won 10 awards at Radio Awards on Saturday night. Primedia's premium content and broadcasting platforms 947, 702, Kfm 94.5, CapeTalk and EWN received over 40 nominations for outstanding achievements in the radio industry. Joburg's 948 won the Station of the Year award. Cape Town's Mihlali Mitch Matyana was honoured as a Bright Star inductee. The CEO of Primera Broadcasting, Randall Abrahams, says exceptional work was delivered across the board.
947 is the winner of the Station of Year award. Anele Mdoda, Thando Thabethe, Mia Lindeque, Trish Taylor, Mihlali Mitch Matyana and Sifiso Zulu are the other winners.
947 was named Station of the Year. Thando Thabethe was the afternoon drive host. Trish Taylor was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Lulalend is the official partner of the 2022 702/Cape Talk Small Business Awards. The event recognises and showcases local SMEs. The top three businesses were each given a significant cash injection and an advertising opportunity on Cape Talk or 702. Ivie Media jumped at the opportunity to partner with Lul alend. They knew it would be a perfect fit for the company.
The Hollard Sport Industry Awards recognise the best in sport marketing in South Africa. The most sought-after award, Brand or Sponsor of the Year, went to MTN for their support of both the Springboks and MTn8. Campaign of Year went for Octagon and Castle Lite for the #LITESIDEOF7S campaign during the Rugby World Cup Sevens played in Cape Town in September. For the second year in a row, The Basketball Africa League won the African Excellence Award (Crossborder) sponsored by MT nam. The SPAR Women’s Virtual Challenge 2022 won Active and Wellbeing Award.
DStv Compact Cup has won the prestigious Event or Competition Sponsorship of the Year award at the Hollard Sports Industry Awards 2022. Portia Modise received a Lifetime Community Achievement Award for her contribution to the upliftment of sports in grass roots communities. Makazole Mapimpi won Longform Content of The Year Award.
Inga Somdyala has been announced as the winner of the overall Artist Award at the inaugural MTN X UJ New Contemporary Awards. Nkule Mabaso’s curatorial excellence was acknowledged with the Legacy Panel Special Award. JT Communication Solutions won the National Presidential SMME Award for SMMs Owned By Persons With Disabilities. The event took place at Keorapetse William Kgositsile Theatre at University of Johannesburg”s Kingsway Campus. The theme of New Beginnings: Nurturing our Digital Imaginations was the event.
