Baltimore Orioles vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction 9-12-23 MLB Picks

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Baltimore Orioles meet Tuesday in MLB action from Oriole Park. This matchup marks the second installment in a three-game series. In Monday’s opener, the Orioles powered out a six-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals had a pretty good weekend series versus the Reds, winning Friday 9-4 and Saturday 4-3 before a 7-1 loss in the finale. Andrew Knizner had the lone RBI in the Sunday defeat. On Monday versus Baltimore, St. Louis had a 4-2 lead early but ended up losing 11-5. Wilson Contreras managed three hits and two RBI in the defeat.

In the starter slot for the Tuesday matchup, the Cardinals are going with Adam Wainwright. This year Wainwright is 3-11 with an 8.19 ERA and 49 Ks in 89.0 innings. Wainwright is 0-7 in his last seven starts with a 9.74 ERA. He’s still sitting at 198 career wins.

Baltimore Orioles

Over on the Orioles’ side, they’re coming off a nice road trip, winning series versus the Diamondbacks, Angels and Red Sox along the way. In Monday’s matchup versus the Cardinals, the O’s scored five in the fifth inning on the way to 13 team hits. Cedric Mullins finished with two runs, two hits, a homer and four RBI.

It’ll be John Means in the start for the Orioles on Tuesday. This will be Means’ debut in 2023; he’s coming off Tommy John surgery. Means is 20-24 with a 3.81 ERA over 70 career games (65 starts).

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stick with the Orioles in this one. It’ll be interesting to see what Means can do in his debut, but Baltimore should be able to carry him regardless. The O’s scored a whopping 37 runs over the final four games of their road trip, and their offense will be a stout test for Wainwright—who is running out of chances to get to 200 career victories. On Monday Baltimore got a rough start from Dean Kremer (4.1 innings; five earned) but the bullpen came through the rest of the way. If the O’s can get another good offensive effort they’ll be tough to catch in game two.
