After a split in the first two outings, on Wednesday Baltimore took a four-run victory. As for Detroit, they played the Brewers in their last series. The Tigers won the first pair, and in game three Detroit fell by four runs. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Baltimore Orioles

Baltimore managed a 5-4 win over the Red Sox on Monday but then fell 8-6 in game two. In the Wednesday rubber match the Orioles took the series with a 6-2 victory following three fourth-inning runs. Starter Tyler Wells lasted 5.2 innings with two earned on four hits and a walk.

For the starter job in the Thursday matchup the Orioles will send out Kyle Gibson. In his five starts so far Gibson is 4-0 with a 3.60 ERA and 24 Ks in 30.0 innings. Gibson is 93-91 in his career with a 4.50 ERA in 272 games (266 starts).

Detroit Tigers

Over on the Detroit side, they beat the Brewers 4-2 on Monday and 4-3 in the Tuesday matchup. In game three the Tigers gave up five runs in the first three innings during a 6-2 defeat. Michael Lorenzen managed 5.0 frames in the start with five earned, seven hits and two walks.

As starter for the Thursday matchup Detroit will go with Joey Wentz. Over four starts this year Wentz is 0-3 with a 7.56 ERA and 14 Ks in 16.2 innings. Wentz is 2-5 with a 4.56 ERA in 11 career starts.

The Orioles are 5-1 in their last six Thursday games and 35-17 in their last 52 in game one of a series. The under is 9-2 in Baltimore’s last 11 Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 20-46 in their last 66 Thursday games and 16-37 in their last 53 versus the AL East. The under is 10-3-4 in Detroit’s last 17 Thursday games.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m going to stick with the Orioles in this one. Gibson is off to a great start so far this year. He’s won four of his five starts and is coming off a nice one-earned performance in 6.1 innings versus Detroit back on April 22 (a series Baltimore swept). On Wednesday the Orioles had a pretty solid all-around game with 11 team hits and zero earned runs allowed by the bullpen. I like Baltimore to keep that momentum going in this opener.
