Cardinals vs Orioles Prediction

The Baltimore Orioles will host the St. Louis Cardinals for game two of their interleague series this Tuesday from Camden Yards.

Cardinals Preview & Projected Starter

St. Louis moved to 63-79 after losing to  Baltimore. The Cardinals took a second-straight six run loss yesterday, and they’ll look to regroup here in game two. The St. Louis offense is scoring 3.97 runs per game, while batting .258, with a .328 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.64 ERA, with a 1.49 WHIP.

Adam Wainwright (3-6, 7.81 ERA, 39 Ks) will get the ball for St. Louis. The longtime Cards pitcher is going out in the worst way possible, and after suffering another loss in Atlanta last week, this matchup could get dark for him once again. Wainwright has now dropped eight straight starts, and there’s little optimism for him for the remainder of the season.

Cardinals Player Trends & Props

Nolan Arenado snapped a four-game hitless streak in the series finale, and he’s St. Louis’ leader in home runs (26) and RBI (87).

Paul Goldschmidt has recorded a hit in seven of the last ten games, and he leads the Cards in hits (141), with splits of .278/22/69.

Wilson Contreras homered twice in the game two victory over SD,  and he’s posting a line of .253/15/54.

Nolan Gorman produced a run in Wednesday’s win, and he’s second on the team in homers (24), with 68 RBI.

Orioles Preview & Projected Starter

Baltimore comes in at 91-52 after defeating St. Louis. The Orioles had their way l at the plate in game one, and they’ll attempt to take a 2-0 series lead here on Tuesday. The Baltimore offense is scoring 4.95 runs per game, while batting .252, with a .329 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.09 ERA, with a 1.29 WHIP.

John Means (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0!Ks) will get the ball for Baltimore. The fifth-year lefty will make his first appearance since April of 2022 this evening, after going through Tommy John surgery. Means posted a 6-9 record, with a 3.62 ERA during his last full season in 2021.

Orioles Player Trends & Props

Adley Rutschmann has produced a run in three straight games, and he leads Baltimore in hits (139), with splits of .275/17/67.

Ryan Mountcastle has multiple hits in both wins over LAA, and he’s posting an identical line of .278/18/67.

Anthony Santander has recorded a hit in five of the last nine games, and he leads O’s in home runs (26) and RBI (79)

Gunnar Henderson has totaled multiple bases in six of the previous eight games, and he’s totaled 22 homers and 65 RBI for the season.

Austin Hays has collected a hit in four of the last five games, and he leads the Orioles in batting (.281), while tallying 54 RBI.

Corey’s Free Pick

Baltimore might just have this one served up on a platter for them, as they get to face a flailing Adam Wainwright at home.  The veteran pitcher looks a lot like fellow Mizzou-based pitcher Zack Grienke, and honestly this is what the DBacks prevented by demoting former postseason great Madison Bumgarner. Wainwright’s presence makes this one appealing for the O’s, and while none of us would hate to see him turn the clock day, odds are that’s not going to happen. Let’s back Baltimore for this interleague battle of birds., and give the Over a hard look as well.
